I went and looked. In two months only 9 colored Bowmans of his first Bowman have been auctioned and nothing above a green. Are people just holding these because they are in deep and they hope they go up in value?

I sold a blue to fund another Ohtani, but for the most part your above statement is accurate combined with the fact that many people holding are for PC. Keep in mind that Ohtani was an extraordinary player before the majors as well.

It would be dumb to sell Ohtani at current prices given that he's about to bring back the two-way craze.

Tough to predict. Some might have bought way early, some during the peak and some after his injury when the prices hit a low since everyone was focused on Acuna/Soto/Bellinger/Gleyber etc. I bought pretty much everything after injury/Tommy john surgery.

I can tell you one thing for certain. If you bought raw cards early and stopped buying, you are underwater. If you kept buying up to now, you are probably averaged close to even cost basis. That said, if you bought graded early, you are super underwater. I was lucky enough to buy mostly good looking raw copies and get them slabbed.

I think at this point the weak hands (flippers) have been shaken and it's people with financially stability that are holding.

I bought the Sky Blue, Purple, Blue and Green all while they are/were low. Been looking for a decent priced gold, orange and red to complete the rainbow but I've had no luck.

I bought most of mine as raw copies as well. My average on TU black pitching variant is $150 and TC Sapphire is $100 including the PSA 10. Recent sales have been higher than what I paid. I started buying after his injury and been buying up until now whenever I can find good deals.

The Bowman paper parallels for Ohtani don't get enoigh credit and I don't know of they ever will. Damn hard to gem and one of his first pack pulled base RCs from a set with pedigree.

There was a time when you could buy sapphire base for $45/card and rainbow foils for $12. That time period was the all time low. Good times those were if you feasted.

I bought raw update golds for $16 average. I missed raw sapphire base for $45. I grabbed two PSA 10 sapphires for $110 each.

Problem is they didn't put 1st Bowman on it. I'm sure there is some weird reason for it. Then it's paper, people tend to not like paper versions. Not sure why they went way. Why not both like the usual or just chromes. Why only paper.

For the update gold, I saw a PSA 10 go for 150+ so I figured the base went up in a correlated manner. Sounds like a good arbitrage opportunity at first glance.

I hear you on the Bowman paper parallels, I love mine but accept that they will never be seen as a key parallel. That said, Topps never put both Bowman 1st and RC logos on a card - they picked the right logo.

I think the real winners are going to be his graded RC autos from condition sensitive sets. If you peruse the PSA/BGS database it's fairly easy to spot.
