VIA Mark Titus on Twitter.

"Zion used the time off to shed 25 pounds of pure fat and put on 10 pounds of lean, explosive, dynamic muscle."

Zion cards are going to rise BIG TIME from where they are at. People that are saying his Prizm is overvalued IMO aren’t paying attention to what happened to other Prizm RCs. Comparatively speaking, his card prices are currently low in relation to his potential. It’s all about ceiling, and Zion’s ceiling is insanely high.

What is his ceiling though? Blake Griffin? AD? I just have a hard time seeing any way he lives up to the completely ridiculous expectations.

Realistically? I'd say the ceiling is Giannis / Steph level, not going to say he'll ever approach Lebron or anything. Talent-wise AD is up there, but has no personality / marketability. Zion can produce at a Davis+ level and is way more fun to watch. If he can't stay healthy, then yes there are parallels to Blake, but that's not the ceiling that's probably the floor.

Ceiling is beyond Griffin and AD.

Comparisons are tough to be honest because there hasn’t really been a player that truly mirrors Zion. He has similar aspects with many players, but his combination of size/athleticism is something otherworldly.

I’m just looking at how the hobby put a pause button on Zion to chase others. Maybe it’s because the Pels have a slim chance in the Playoffs this year. Long term though, I’m buying Zion right now.

If his peak was AD btw, that would still be a huge compliment. AD is a beast. I’ve been buying up AD like crazy this past month. Only thing that held his cards back was a Pelicans jersey.

That's the hope. During rehab they talked about having to teach him to land/jump to minimize stress on his knee - I'd worry about him staying on the plan as there were many games he landed super awkwardly and off balance.

Peak Blake Griffin was a 20 and 10 player, that's saying he's going to be better than one of the best interior talents of the early 2000-teens

I haven't seen any pause - his market is still pretty insane - basically priced as if he's there.

I think the things that worked against AD and put a pre-LA lull on his prices were:

1) it took him a few years to develop into a dominant force. there was no immediate success with AD

2) he was king of the 'bumps and bruises' narrative. He didn't miss as much time as people think, but he was constantly leaving games early and returning in the 2nd half due to smashing his head on a camera or spraining his finger on the scorer's table. It became a stigma.

3) His numbers never translated into any notable playoff success in NO. If Zion (along with the team) can change that early in his career, it'll be a huge plus

Dude laid off the jambalaya for a week, and his card values will go up 100%? Wild times in this hobby

His market has confusing disparities. His autos are BANANAS, but base is relatively tame by comparison. I think people are too used to seeing his Prizm and Optic cards. I can’t help but think what price tags on his base will look like in ten years.

As always, we are just speculating here and I could be wrong, but I just see a terrific opportunity to grab some Zion base RCs that may never present itself again.

Valid points. I think the NO/LA thing actually worked well for both teams. I expect the Pels to build into a playoff contender within the next few years with their young talent. I’m rooting for Zion big time. I don’t own a ton of his stuff, but I love the way the kid plays and carries himself.

I also, expect that AD’s new locale is going to cause his stock to rise immensely. With a Lakers championship, prices could get silly fast. People are going to be glued to the TV and they are going to have a hard time missing the fact that LeBron isn’t the only person in a Lakers jersey dominating out there.

Agreed..couldn't have worked better for either team or players. And Zion/AD just wouldn't have worked in NO. Too much usage between two primary bigs that bang down low.

I admit I was a bit hesitant wondering how Zion's hobby perspective would fare since he went to NO. But it doesn't matter where you play as long as you produce.

So Zion lost weight and Ja put on weight, glad they spent their time wisely. Should be fun

I agree and this is giving me serious FOMO. I feel like $600 is going to end up being a steal, which is insane. I also wish there was a way both the Grizzlies and Pelicans could get into the playoffs. Ja and Zion are two of the 10 (maybe 5) most exciting guys in the league right now.
