Elias is only $60 usd averaging ppg in season and playoffs.

Lafreniere needs 35 goals 75 points to not tank hard.
It won't be easy.

Post e-pack it is almost impossible for a YG to stay at $100 + usd besides mcdavid/matthews.

Only if lafreniere went to Montreal.
Elias was up over $75 when Vancouver was in the playoffs. One thing they should consider doing but they won't is why couldn't they have Young Gun Mystery Redemptions kinda like Artifacts, say have 10-20 mystery redemption for young guns.

Can anyone tell me how many full base team sets (#1-#200) can one expect to get from a hobby case? I'm guessing probably around 7 or 8.

I think that hobby is worth the premium unless retail boxes are under $50. You get many base packs and you get really no hits other than base YGs.

Wonder if retail and hobby really will be released on the same day??

Last year I recall the YGs CL came out about 2 weeks before the release and then full CL came out release week. Things maybe different this year I'm thinking.

I like the blasters when they are on sale for the black friday at release. For the price of one hobby box, you get 5 blasters, which means around 7-8 YGs and 5 Jumbo YGs. With the shorter checklist on the jumbo YGs, it gives decent chances to pull a good name. I pulled Jack Hugues jumbo out of my 5 blasters last year. But UD cheaped on the packaging of the jumbos last year, they are harder to get in good condition.

I prefer having the chance at better parallels & inserts in hobby, but definitely get the math of getting more YGs in blasters bought on sale vs a hobby box. It will be interesting how the market for YGs etc is around release with no games being played and really no news of when it will even return.

Well Laf wont tank in price (based on poor play/slow start) because no games are happening.

You only get two YGs in a tin now so you might only get one in a blaster. If you are going to buy retail, buy a retail box so you are guaranteed 6 YGs plus a chance at a canvas YG. I don’t see much value in blasters and tins.

These are mostly for kids anyway- low price point and maybe a cheap jersey to go with a YG.
Might be the only option for the little ones now with all the 40 year old virgins cleaning out the Tim Hortons nationwide.

Blasters have 7 packs while YGs are 1:4 packs. So, in average, 3 blasters out of 4 will have a second YG.
I only touch the blasters during the black friday sales at release. At full SRP hobby is a way better break.

Lafreniere's YG will come out hot. As crazy as it sounds, I think it will initially sell for $150. I'm thinking with all the new interest in the hobby and a projected generational player will equate to outlandish asking prices. I'm thinking he'll be more like McDavid then Daigle, but expectations haven't been this high since McJesus.

Looking at the hobby box & case breakdown I see there is now a Dazzlers Blue box hit and a Clear Cut PETG case hit. Any clue what PETG is?

2020-21 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey Hobby Box Break Average
  • 6 Young Guns Rookie Cards
  • 4 UD Canvas
  • 6 Inserts (Debut Dates, NHL Worldwide, Predominant, Rookie Retrospective)
  • 4 UD Portraits Inserts
  • 1 Dazzlers Blue Insert

2020-21 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey Hobby Case Break Average
  • 1 Autograph
  • 4 Clear Cut Parallels
  • 6 UD Canvas Young Guns Rookies
  • 1 Clear Cut PETG Card

I agree I am thinking perhaps even as high as $175. Pretty sure Jack Hughes were as high as $125 around release last year. Being released outside of an active NHL season is somewhat of a big wild card IMO.

$175 usd or cad?

It will be hard for him to stay at $100 usd after a month.

$175USD is my guess. Alexis is in a large market with a large following. I could see the base YG settling in around half of what it's peak price ends up being by Jan 1st. If Alexis makes a splash once the season starts I would say it could easily hit that peak again.

Program of Excellence..........Team Germany?

Of course you would have to ignore that Program of Excellence is the name associated with Team Canada's junior program......so clearly I have no idea.

Would be cool if it was a set dedicated to Team Canada World Junior Greats of the past.

I think there will be big buzz around the Lafreniere card out of the gate. I don't think that will have much to do with the New York market - It'll be more about new collectors hunting McDavid level returns on the hype.

The real question is still the rest of the YG checklist and who the YGC's are. The tier two/second and third best names on that list are going to mean the difference in whether the sale prices of the boxes don't collapse right out of the gate.

A 12% chance at a 125 dollar Lafreniere card in what's otherwise a box of straight garbage isn't going to sustain the usual $80-85/box asking price - the fact that they're waiting until the last possible moment before release to publish the checklist does seem like a *bad* sign.

It's already been announced that Lafreniere will be the only guy from the recent draft on the S1 YG CL right? Without the season being live at release that is keeping other YGs from popping. Probably better off holding all YGs outside of Lafreniere around release.

New York is a terrible market and vastly overrated.

He'd sell way better in a small market like Pittsburgh.

I've seen some experienced collectors saying Lafreniere YG should be in the price range of Mackinnon YG.
