To me NT isn’t iconic. It’s not a singular card. The Prizm base (silver) Mahomes is a singular iconic card. Even the variations are still just different colors of that singular image. People can’t even grasp what the true NT RPA is at times. |

I have no idea what the actual RPA even looks like I’ve seen multiple horizontal cards? Vertical? I honestly have no idea what is what… and I’ve been around a while It’s not iconic It’s just expensive I don’t know when that stopped… maybe Andrew Luck? That’s the last RPA where I knew what the hell I was looking at

I’m an early 80’s kid.
Imo the most iconic football cards (I see it and know exactly what if’s from) from my generation are: Barry Sanders 89 Score Jerry Rice 86 Topps Montana 81 Topps Marino & Elway 84 Topps Manning and Moss - 98 Topps Chrome Brady 00 - SP Authentic Peterson & Megatron - 07 Topps Chrome Although a baseball release - Bo Jackson’s 1990 Score card is an honorable mention/football oddity as it’s more recognizable than his football counterpart out of the Score Supplemental Football set. At the time, I’m probably close to your age, SPA were head and shoulders above everything since EXQ was just starting Ironically for me 1998 is Bowman Chrome I traded a complete set of 1998 SPA to my LCS for a couple boxes of Bowman Chrome Football No one cared about 1998 SPA because we didn’t appreciate the /2000 yet and Bowman Chrome baseball was king Whoops

The Payton Legends… absolutely no clue
Payton/Sanders I think I can picture? But not enough for it to be iconic Is that the same set as Manning/Unitas? In which case I might know it

The Payton Sanders passing the torch dual auto is probably the most Iconic football card of all time.

As stated already, 2017 Mahomes Prizm has already achieved "iconic" status in the card world. Even if he does nothing from here on out, it's a card that will define this era.

Disagree, If there is an Iconic Mahomes card it has to be National Treasues

The Payton/Sanders to me is the pinnacle of football cards. I still have my true gem +. Financially it was foolish to keep over a Brady Championship Ticket but it is always going to remain my favorite.

My wife knows what a Jerry Rice rookie card looks like if she picked it up off the floor
She’d have no idea what that was Your focus is way too narrow

I admit I could have spread it out a bit but the 98 Manning Contenders was a game changer as far as RC cards go, and Up until the last few years when Brady RCs turned in the cars, houses, and mansions, the 99 Passing the torch was the absolute grail of any football card collector hands down.

A couple of also rans that haven't been discussed
1957 Johnny Unitas 1972 Roger Staubach There are definitely some boomers out there that would list those in the T5 Edit: The Unitas was discussed in the first post, FML

Interesting sub-topic of the Mahomes Prizm vs Mahomes NT as far as iconic goes. A lot more people have a shot at the Prizm compared to the NT, but NT gets all the press (and eyeballs) when it breaks records.
I gotta go with the Prizm personally in terms of a card that will define a generation. It’s his most desired shiny base card in an age that seems to be moving away from autos and more into shiny cards and SSP inserts. And this is coming from a person who doesn’t even like Prizm. |

This is what makes it fun. So what would be your #1 most iconic card?
