A year ago, I decided I wanted to bypass the Ebay fees and ended up selling two cards via Instagram for ~3500 each for a total of ~7K.

Researched the buyer, seemed legit and was.

He transferred me the $ through paypal (I paid a small fee to use Goods and Services, not Friends and Family to be safe) and I sent him the cards.

I cashed out the $ from paypal into my personal checking account.

Then a day later, paypal initiated a chargeback which removed the $ from my bank account and then froze the funds in my paypal account which they then locked and suspended.

I had to call paypal multiple times and on one occasion I actually conferenced in the buyer who was kind enough to try to help out to assure them these were legit transactions which he did.

The only information I got from them was that I could no longer use paypal and that my funds would be held frozen for 6 months, at which point I would receive an email from them with directions on how to get my 7500.

This was incredibly stressful and frustrating to say the least, and I enlisted the help of both my lawyer and banker to no real avail.

After about 6 months, I received an email from paypal stating I could now transfer my 7500 back into my bank account and I did so immediately.

Apparently, this has happened to other people and there was actually a class action law suit in the works against paypal that I could have but decided not to join.

I coudn’t use paypal now even if i wanted to, because my account has been locked and permanently suspended. And I promise you I would never have wanted to again anyway after this whole debacle.

I returned to Ebay and I just accept the fees as a cost of doing business.

I cannot, however, defend the actions of the seller in this case when he declined your offer and went on to accept something lower. That sounds a lot like inexperience and/or desperation to me.

Just letting people know that there are valid reasons why a seller might not want to sell direct or off Ebay.
wow, thanks for sharing, what a hassle, sorry you dealt with that.

totally makes sense that some folks wouldn't want to try to make a deal "on the side" so I get it.

Yeah, that's not a lot of feedback when considering that most are associated with buying.

Another thing you could do is simply ask the seller why he didn't deal with you.

I know it’s impossible for most here to believe, but true hobbyists exist who don’t need or want cash.

For some, cards really are just a hobby.

I won't bother, I don't think it was personal. I just thought it was strange. Live and learn!

Ok? haha

Are you suggesting that the seller is trying to sell cards for less money on purpose? Because "#thehobby"?

And seller (who doesn't want cash) is selling items on ebay, for cash?

I feel you can be a true hobbyist and still sell cards.....I've seen a lot of phenomenal collections over the years that will never be sold. But those same people with collections still sell what they aren't 'attached' too. It's all a matter of how you look at it I guess....I figure, everyone can enjoy the hobby as they see fit....we all have a different definition of what brings them joy within this sportscard world.

MTP is a soap box guy that talks a big game but is thought to be one of the biggest flippers on Blowout. He also likes to leave negative feedback (after the fact) on eBay for shipping charges that he knew about, agreed to, and paid. His words are simply trolling. If he truly believed & followed what he types, he wouldn't be able to walk into a card show without screaming at every single dealer, seller or flipper in the room (all day).

In the past week I have had 2 buyers, one with 10,000+ feedback and the other with 12,000+, reach out to me and want to make an eBay purchase with cash and money order. I had to pass because I think it is against eBay rules to pass personal info thru their message boards, and I didn't want to take the chance on getting suspended. Is there a way to do cash/money order like in the old days?

Always so easily triggered, always so broke.

Where’s Khal, your better half? Not accustomed to seeing you post by yourself.

Most of the time, when these these truly dedicated collectors must sell what they love because of some circumstance, they normally liquidate for a fraction of their collection’s worth. They’re more interested in others enjoying the cards. Pretty zen.

You rang?

If it's just a hobby, why not just give the card away?

They must be poor. If they weren't, they'd just give the cards away for free. What losers.

I know you’re a sad individual. Learning to make better life choices and making peace with yourself is key, not trying to spend all your free time living off margin also helps.

Anything given away for free has no value.

The best way is to coin your pics with your IG name, or somehow make it easy for people to find you outside of eBay.
