2023 Topps Chrome Sapphire EQL

I'm a Monty member and I'm not buying any. Just look at the current price of 2022 Sapphire for a comparison.

Just a point of reference FYI;

These boxes were $130 last year and sold initially on Ebay around $220-$230 per box.

Seems like they are matching the secondary market pricing from last year.

They came out at $250 a box. Topps actually dropped the price a bit, but the product is still ruined by the massive checklist with a 32-card-per-box distribution.

Oh cool - 660 card base set & 32 cards per box for +$200. So you only have a chance at 5% of the checklist and no guaranteed auto? LMAO at Fanatics selling retail blasters disguised as hobby exclusive.

Boys - I dont know if I need to say this, but there are a lot of singles from the past 100 years and a bunch of wax with better odds that you can rip instead.

I would avoid this like the plague.

I don’t think EQL stands for anything. EQL is the name of a 3rd party raffle company. Not that it matters for this release, but I heard EQL is pretty good at filtering out bots/multiple entries.

Those were the days when auto checklists were 55 long and the prices were just 1/2 of what they are now. That was just 3 years ago, ie before Fanatics had their money grab. Good for them though for realizing this is an addiction and making it harder to pull anything and charge more. They've figured that out. When they got rid of autos out of this and still raising the prices bc people pay for it at a super high price initially before folks realize a year later that the prices need to come down? Fanatics already made their money...Look at the prices of sapphire from last year via retail. They're below what they were a year ago when people rushed out to buy boxes.

I'm not buying Montgomery Club any more after this year. The first set that they gave out was complete garbage. Some vintage stock, no autos. Then, this sapphire used to be the reason to get Montgomery club. But without autos and the price the same as retail for what last year's is going for? No thanks. I'll pass on just donating $200 to Fanatics for next year. They really are hurrying up the junk wax 2.0 era.

Amen...they're doing that with all of the products this year. They're looking at what prices this stuff went for on retail last year, ie secondary market had to make a profit and are just charging that amount at the start. Lots of people are going to lose a LOT of money off Fanatics cash grab in next few years until things change.

Certainly appears that way. They were like 1 in 100 boxes last year, so it was practically no autos already. With no autos and 660 card checklist seems like $149 should have been the ceiling.

You’re talking about Update Sapphire with the autos. Chrome Sapphire had no autos for the first time last year.

Yes. That's been the format. But... Last year was a bloodbath for regular Sapphire so folks assumed that either the price would go down, extra "hits" would be introduced for value (autos, SPs, image variations, etc) and/or the checklist would be condensed as there's really NO need for a 660-card checklist UNLESS prices are about cut in half or format is changed.

Not only does this checklist show zero autos, it also doesn't list the SP subjects. So who knows if those were merely inserted into the product description verbiage to goose sales - they certainly were a major play in me upping my target spend for these - and won't be included in the product or maybe they just were omitted from the checklist.

Also, the Sapphire Selections is fine, though including Baty over Josh Jung is a headscratcher and that would have been a perfect insert set to toss a Matt Mclain since he already has a RC Logo card in 2023 Cosmic.

Correct, no autos. There haven't been any autos since 2021. Buuuut...they're making it gimmicky to get that sense of FOMO to get you to buy boxes. Last year they short printed Julio to get you to buy more. This year, they added rookie inserts. You know, bc adding autos would be too easy to add value, even if it was like 1 a case. Just taking the value away, print more, make new releases, cash grab more. In 30 years, we'll see a few have high value, but rest of this crap, we're gonna regret spending $250 per box. The "what were we thinking" will be there just like it was in the 90s.

I'm always in for a couple boxes. Not this time unfortunately. I don't necessarily rip for profit, but give me like a 3% chance. Sucks that I won't be getting a Mitch Haniger /99, and a Tyler Stephenson /75. I shall persevere.

This is a great way to illustrate this release. With only 2 colors in a box and a 660 card checklist your odds are really good to get 2 garbage colors.

I should be able to get all the singles I want for the 200+ that this box is going to cost.
