I like the BBM cards of him, but the Topps 2021 seems to be the one people want in the states. I picked up a huge lot of him 2 months ago for dirt cheap and currently have 16 of his 2021 Topps, 1 2022 Topps Chrome Refractor and 1 2022 Topps blue foil /50 at PSA. I should have those back mid-December so hopefully in time before he signs with someone.

Found one of the 2021 NPB Chrome repacks at Walmart yesterday. Yoshinobu card sitting right on top of the pack when I opened it!

Found 5 of those 2 pack boxes with the chance of a mantle 70th set card, no mantle 4 2021 topps platinum chrome packs 1 2021 npb chrome and 5 uk packs. Hit 4 of the black and white diamonds from the platinum packs best being mark McGwire and a tanner Houck rc nothing good in the uk packs except a Bobby Witt jr rc and there was a Yamamoto in the npb pack along with a refractor of Yuto Mori card 72. Spent 50 dollars but I have spent more on other junk so I was happy.

That's a nice one. You should get it graded. Yamamoto's base topps now wbc has a low print run (print run #/1962) compared to the other guys. Gonna be very collectible.

I just finished ripping the 5 remaining boxes from the 2022 Bowman NPB BB case I purchased from BO.

I pulled some awesome Yoshinobu Yamamoto cards.

- Bowman Chrome Green /99
- Bowman Green Paper /99
- Bowman Chrome Refractor
- Bowman Chrome Base x 2 (sold 1 after I ripped the initial 7 boxes)
- Bowman Chrome Paper x 10 (sold off 6 after I ripped the initial 7 boxes)
- Bowman Chrome Saikou x 1 (sold after I ripped the initial 7 boxes)

I paid $600 shipped for the case and likely recouped such value from the Yoshinobu Yamamoto (as raw) cards alone.

I didn't assess the conditions of the Green /99s and refractor meticulously, but from a cursory glance, they seemed fine. I should probably review them and send them to PSA but I'm a little lazy too.

What's everyone's opinion on Yamamoto's "1st" BC card (not 1st ever card but 1st BC card)? I only ask because I've received some strong offers on the Green /99 but am considering keeping it for the PC because it's his 1st BC card.

If its a good price, I would sell. We all know topps is gonna pump out a whole bunch of Yamamotos rc. People are gonna want that card with the RC logo.

Probably doesn’t mean much but anytime there is Topps Now card printed less than the Topps Flagship Gold print runs (i.e. /2023) it adds perspective to me on the potential values. I know the flagship will likely carry bigger values but it helps size up what the top side might be for me. I’ve always had a hard time valuing Topps now cards but lately have been thinking about the Flagship golds for a comparison since they the Topps Now likely won’t carry the premiums that chrome parallels would bring.

Very true, Topps will definitely pump out various Yamamoto RC cards. With that said, there's something about pack-pulling a card and developing sentimental attachment towards it. I need to overcome that aspect lol.

That is a nice haul!

I ripped a case and my Yamamoto luck was pretty bad. 2 Base chrome and 1 Saikou. That was it outside of base paper. No color paper either. But at the BO BN price, not a bad price on cases/boxes.

2022 Topps Chrome NPOB has no Shunpeita Yamashita cards (but Bowman does) for whatever reason and Yamamoto was inexplicably left off the '22 Topps Chrome 1958 insert (which is a fantastic looking set). Just a couple pieces of info for those looking to rip.

Oh dang, that's pretty rough. Fortunately you secured your case at the BO BN price ($600). I didn't realize how much better (than the norm) my case was. I know I got lucky with 2 numbered Yamamoto hits but I thought, given the amount of color per box, one could expect 1 numbered hit (on average).

Did you hit any numbered cards of the other main guys like Roki/Munetaka/Yoshida/Senga?

Thanks for sharing about Shunpeita. This set is posed to be one of those fun sets where they'll be value for years (each time one of the NPB players heads to the MLB, the "hype" and associated price bumps produced by the move).

I feel like there's so many people prospecting on his cards waiting for him to either sign or have the season start that now may be the time to sell. Of course the casual fan may not know his name yet and once he signs that could blow up. IDK. Just wonder if maybe his upside is already priced in. An $80-100 Topps Chrome base card is fairly absurd.

At the same time, I ripped 3 boxes of 2021 TC NPB and didn't hit a single base Yamamoto (as a matter of fact, the only Yamamoto card I remember hitting was the insert).

So I don't think $80-$100 for his base TC card is too absurd when it's a first-year TC NPB card, relatively tough to hit and boxes are priced at $200+. I'm not saying I'd drop $80-$100 on the card either though.

I believe all other Japanese players are older... Darvish etc. Am I forgetting someone?

I imagine that new guy on the Ddodgers is going to give Yamamoto a call and have a serious conversation about playing baseball together. Easy case to make that the deferral money paves a path for Yamamoto to sign.

Darvish was not planning to pitch in this past WBC and was convinced by Sho to play. Darvish says he saw a new side to Sho and described his desire to win as almost obsessive/greedy, and was subsequently drawn in.

Wouldn't shock me. I forgot mookie had deferred a lot too. Dodgers are going to have over 500m in deferred salaries. At some point it won't be sustainable.
