Oh boy. I am glad I paid 85 for my box then. I feel that its already going higher, given that the place i preordered it from originally now has it for 130 per box. I think it is probably speculation that caused the price to spike. That's why whatnot is selling for 150 a box bc they need to make 'profit' off a 130 box I guess.

I mean, nearly every product these days goes up in pre-order prices and just after release. DC is no different from the tons of sets that came out before.

I understand that. However, whatever epack sets the box prices at will hopefully cap it somewhat. Just glad I didnt pay 50 extra dollars.

Yeah I see them now on Whatnot, but I was asking yesterday because the product is not suppose to release today, so I was confused on how they got it

It’ll be interesting to see who top dog in DC is. Like for a rare parallel or PMG…which is gonna go for more, Superman or Batman?

In marvel I think it’s unquestionably Spider-Man #1, then Wolverine #2. I’m guessing it’ll be Superman #1 then Batman #2 in DC, just because Superman is the most iconic, prototypical superhero, but I’m not totally sure. I do think there will be more Batman actual collectors.

I'm more interested in the female characters. Not to start a DC vs Marvel debate, but as a casual DC fan, who is there besides Catwoman and Wonder Woman? Is Lois Lane popular? Or Power Girl outside her... assets that make her a popular character for covers? Black Canary?

Tend to agree. It'll probably be Superman > Batman but I doubt it's by much. Might see something similar to Marvel in that Wolverine can and does outsell Spidey at times.

Pretty interesting question. I'd venture a guess that a large portion of mid to high end Marvel singles sales are Female characters. Spidey, Wolvie, Venom and a few others usually make up the highest sales, typically, but Psylocke, Scarlet Witch, Black Cat etc. also sell incredibly well.

I'm with you, in that I can't name off more than 3-5 DC Female characters. I also doubt they'll move as good as their Marvel counterparts...but I could be wrong!

Harley Quinn would be up there, Supergirl, Poison Ivy, Batwoman come to mind

I would add punchline and all the various batgirls. Powergirl. Huntress. Really a ton of them but if you don’t read the comics it would be hard to know. Maybe James Gunn will change that and make dc popular.

watched some of a case break. Batman went for 250, Superman was 205, Joker was 190. Those were the ones that stood out. Checked back into the break and those 3 seemed to get nothing near that cost. I dont understand why people dont just buy 2 or 3 boxes via preorder and at least get something, instead of breaking.

Default 2023-24 DC Annual (Upper Deck, 2025)

That seems like a lot for spots in an Annual break. Clearly paying a premium for being first major DC action and the exciting new factor.

I am very interested in how the DC character pricing tier chart works out. I mean in Marvel you can give me almost any character and I can tell you roughly where the value is on the spectrum of characters. Spidey, Wolvie- top. Venom, Surfer, Psylocke, Thanos, maybe Carnage- upper. Cap, Iron man, Thor, Hulk- below those upper tiers but still well above avg. Scarlet Witch and Rogue- solid but below Psylocke and Black Cat. That sort of thing, there was a whole thread on it.

I couldn’t tell you one bit what it’s like in DC …Riddler vs Penguin? The Flash vs Catwoman? Robin? I’m so lost lol. Maybe the market will be establishing the hierarchy real soon. Or maybe someone who collected Cryptozoic era DC already has an idea. Although I suspect the Crypto era DC was more for collecting vs having value….while this UD will be more for value (pulling big cards then selling them, like PMGs and low numbered parallels).

It is interesting the Batman spot already outsold the Superman spot. It’s just one example but thought Superman would be on top. From a much broader perspective, Action comics #1 > Detective #27 in Overstreet NM value. Superman just has that ‘Top’ aspect to him. But we’ll see how it plays out in cards. I would *think* the top 3 in DC would end up being Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. But maybe in cards Joker gets into that 3 spot since I can see some nasty Joker cards with awesome art being desirable (in the same way Venom cards are). I could even see Harley Quinn being way up there tbh.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see where it shakes out.

For Superheroes, let's take the extended Justice League. If I had to place them in "tiers," I'd guess the following:

Tier S: Batman, Superman
Tier A: Green Lantern, Wonder Woman
Tier B: The Flash
Tier C: Hawkman, Martian Manhunter
Tier D: Cyborg, Green Arrow, The Atom

Villains are a bit tougher. I'd have to imagine the Batman villains to be the most popular by a good margin.

Tier S: Joker, Penguin,
Tier A: Lex Luthor, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, Catwoman, Bane, Sinestro, Riddler
Tier B: Brainiaic, Poison Ivy, Doomsday
Tier C: Gorilla Grod, Reverse Flash, Clayface, Killer Croc
Tier D: Cheetah

I could be way off, these are just my best guesses....

We'll see what the market says when these start going up on eBay.

On a side note - what set do you think will be the first set to have PMGs /100, with 1-10 being green?

And has DC ever had PMGs before?

Batman has been #1 in DC by a lot for awhile now. The number of bat books, bat events and Batman movies vs anything Superman recently has a huge difference. This also has a trickle effect of bat characters like Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Robin and even characters like Nightwing being bigger than most of their other heroes. Maybe that changes with the new a Superman movie coming out but I doubt it, Batman is simply too far ahead and has a much bigger fan base. I think DC stuff will look like this:

Tier SS: Batman
Tier S: Joker, Superman
Tier A: Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Robin
Tier B: Green Lantern, Flash, Lex Luther, Poison Ivy, Nightwing, Batgirl
Tier C: Two Face, Penguin, Riddler, Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow
Tier D and lower: everything else

Maybe Braniac gets a bump from the Superman movie too but I think it will be very Bat dominant as that's how DC has been for years. If older collectors from an earlier age of comics or those who grew up with the JLA tv series are a big portion maybe some of the other heroes get more love but that hasn't been what I've seen from other DC media.

Default 2023-24 DC Annual (Upper Deck, 2025)

I do agree that Batman

-Has bigger fanbase
-Has had more stuff going on recently in movies and media
-also is the “cooler” character

And so far the very early spot prices are proving him to be a step above Superman.
But this is somewhat surprising to me. I just expected the market to designate Superman top dog regardless. The analogue to Marvel: Spider-Man is the prototypical superhero, sort of like Superman, even the colors red and blue aligned. Wolverine is the #2 spot, but is the “cool” one, perhaps a little edgier and darker. Guess we’ll see where the market ends up in DC. I suspect it there is a difference, in say a PMGs value between the two…it won’t be that much.

I agree Batman periphery characters probably go to the upper tiers as a rule of thumb. Catwoman probably basically equivalent to Black Cat. Harley Quinn way up there. Even Robin probably is high- his #2 card in the original Topps ‘66 set has been gaining traction and probably second biggest card in set.

To answer the above question about PMGs, no PMGs for DC yet. My guess for first set with them would be like Batman Metal. Superman Fleer Ultra probably has medallions.
