when you say blue bars what do you actually mean?

I've followed baseball my entire life and never heard anybody use it as a metric

He wants to talk about the blue and ignore the red. Even though had statcast been around when Wade Boggs Ichiro and Tony Gwynn were around I bet they would not have be much higher.

How can you tell a “flip stock”, and what does that mean? I’m seeing this flip stock on eBay for $125, and the same looking card for $2.99

Tony Gwynn had a career .120 ISO and a 7.7% walk rate.

Ichiro: .091 ISO and 6% walk rate.

Boggs was a walk machine (13%) but only had a .115 ISO.

Rod Carew had a nice 9.6% walk rate but only a .101 ISO.

Between these four players and eight stats, only the walk rates of Boggs and Carew were above league average. All four, of course, are HOFers because they tallied lots of hits and won lots of batting titles.

So, many of us grew up watching guys for whom hitting was more of an art of making contact and hitting it where they ain’t. That’s been largely lost (devalued), but it is entirely possible to be this kind of player and thrive at the highest level of the game.

When you sort Heritage cards, base cards have a rough texture on the back and a smooth premium finish on the fronts. The flip stocks have a reversed, or “flip” finish with the fronts being semi rough and the backs smooth and glossy-ish.

I don’t have a base Wilson but here is the card out of the top loader.

You can see the more shiny back.

I also pulled an Ohtani, which I have a base of.
Here are the two side by side. You can see the clear differences when put together.

Flip Stock left (slightly darker more defined matte finish) base right semi-glossy)

Flip Stock left (semi-glossy) base right (dull, more rough finish).

I hate flip stocks - why not just label the stupid thing instead of giving me PTSD I may or may not have got one

I know it’s a pain but I promise you can know them pretty obvious. The backs feel just like the same finish as the 1990 Topps S1 35th Anniversary. Base cards are a rough like finish.

Dude, I'm sorry I horribly offended you and Jacob Wilson by pointing out some things from his statcast page. Lol
I'm not trying to tear down the guy, merely pointing out some interesting metrics observations. I'm not trying to de-pump Wilson and tank the value of your Wilson collection or anything. Just interesting that he's doing as well as he is despite some warts in his batting profile. Obviously the things he does very well more than overcome the weak parts of his profile. But it doesn't seem to be a fluke since his xBA is pretty close to his actual.

Old man yells at Statcast.

Wilson's profile is looking shockingly similar to Arraez.

I like how the announcers talked about him having the shortest swing, and low bat speed as he knocked two out of the park tonight

He's Arraez with 15-homer power instead of 5-homer power.

That park is going to play like Coors West this summer so I expect a pretty gaudy final line as long as he stays healthy.

Trout has a super short swing, but also plus bat speed. Guess if you can square it up, you don't need elite bat speed to knock them out. Lol

So he’s Derek Jeter then?

4 for last 7 with a walk in last 2. I think he’s ok. He’s a rookie so he might hit a rough patch here and there but still hitting over .340.
