This is 100% accurate

Shocking I know

I’d rather draft a QB every year (draft 2 if you want) until you legit hit on a star

The Sam Bradford contract is gone

If the Niners hadn’t given up 900 picks for Trey Lance no one would even care about Trey Lance. It was just the worst trade ever that people remember

You could have just moved on from him like the Patriots, Bears, or Jets did

I think Purdy deserves it

They win that overtime superbowl game and we're all saying how it is a steal of a contract

The contract would be for way more if they win that game

He’s 300/5 at that point

I wonder why Nick Foles didn’t get a contact like this, he won a SB.

Nick Foles was like 30

Purdy is 25 and whether y'all like it or not he's a successful system QB

He WAS a successful system quarterback.

How he does without an offensive line and prime weapons remains to be seen.

I’m not hopeful.

Well...everyone debated whether he can win without superstars around him.

I am on the fence.

We will find out.

Newsflash, every QB looks like crap without an O line or targets to throw to.

Not every quarterback is getting paid $53 million a year.

Let's be honest, only Patrick Mahomes is worth his contract. There's no such as getting a discount in the QB market.

Like what were the 49ers supposed to pay him? Sam Darnold is making 30M a year

Niners could have had Russ for 11 million. Purdy will be lucky to win as many games as Russ has lost in his career. He won what 6 games last year. Russ averaged 10-12 wins a year for 10 years in Seattle. Hopefully Purdy has the pedigree to be elite for 5 years. Niners have no other choice at that price.

The Niners got what they paid for.

Sincerely,

His subpar performance last season is why people question whether he's a good investment. Even if that had happened after winning a title, people would still be questioning how good he is.

Can he elevate his teammates and help compensate for their weaknesses? Or is he just an average-ish QB who needs a great all-around team to contend for a championship?

He definitely took a step back last year, I wouldn't say he had a subpar performance

Both his passer rating and QBR were higher than Mahomes

No one wants Russ. He flamed out in Den. Pitt didn’t want another year. NY has multiple starter options. He was carried by an all time D in Sea and only won one SB. I don’t think he’s the player you think him to be.

Purdy wasn't bad last year...

He just wasn't good enough to win with the team around him last year, but has been good enough to win with the Avengers when they were around him.

It's pretty clear to me.... in order for this contract to be worthwhile for the 49ers, Purdy needs to continue to develop and improve.

Russell's out of his prime. I don't think the 9ers are looking for a bridge QB at the moment. Maybe they did not need to give Purdy the contract extension this year but it makes 0 sense for them to have signed RW. They would've just drafted a QB if Purdy sucked this upcoming season. If he went off they would've signed him to a higher contract then they did.

If Purdy plays well this year it was a good contract. The only way this contract looks bad is he completely craps the bed. QBs aren't cheap considering Daniel Jones and Geno Smith were making 32M

That's a more interesting conversation about slightly above average QBs.

Also, personally, if I was a fan of a player, I wouldn't put "MVP" as my avatar when he won it in arguably one of the worst races in recent memory.

If LJax didn't already have two, he probably would've won and truly it should've went to Saquon but they never consider RBs.
How many QB would get 49ers to SB with that roster? Hell even Jimmy G brought 49ers to SB. So he also deserves 55m?

I’d be super meh

So if meh is worth $265,000,000?

That’s up to you

Nothing about him or the current team screams contender to me. I don’t care what Vegas has convinced people to bet on
Pretty much how I feel about it right now. They do have a very forgiving schedule this year. Just need the draft picks to hit and I think they could have a shot. Pretty big if though so I'll temper my expectations a little bit.

It's got to be nice to be a mid-QB these days. There is a clear distinction between the Top 5 QB's and the guys in the middle of the pack. Unfortunately for the teams employing these mid-QB's (mine included), they're overpaying substantially because of how much further the drop-off is from mid-tier to low-tier.

I'm in agreement with those who have said to let a lot of these guys walk. You can win in this league with a great roster and a decent QB at a decent price. Too many teams think one guy (a QB) can lead them to a Super Bowl win. That's just not the case. No QB can will their team to the SB. It's best to invest throughout the roster and get a decently priced QB, than overspend on the position and have to constantly cut guys due to salary cap restrictions.

This will not work out for the Niners. Their roster is deteriorating, and Purdy, while good, does not have the skills to overcome their lack of talent. It would have been best to move on.

I’m thrilled to see the worst city in the country doom themselves with this contract. How does bozo Shanahan still have a job after squandering away that roster?
