Our buddy Darren tweeted..

The buildup for Fanatics Fest is already being felt. Two parking garages near the Javits Center which took prepaid reservations told drivers they were full and could not honor their reservations.

This is by 7:30, two and a half hours before doors open.

Just putting the ask out. Is there anyone in NY who would be willing to fly me out to show the Kobe first-rookie error, CSG graded 9 in person? Oh and the Nesmith moo sneakers, one of two pairs of his shoe (the other was standard TWO WXY V2, but 2022 playoff worn) I have ever seen on the web.

I could offer to stake that person for a 1 percent spot in the next 2016-17 Prizm case break (provisionally, funds allowing).

I’m an old man but it’s like you’re speaking a different language

It's pretty much transactional. Investor hat.

Looking to sell the least possible elements of the collection to get money for a decent room with a garden.

And I don't want to be in hock to anyone getting out there.

Yes, this is how the current 20-40 tech-focused generation with speculative money to spend speaks.

Pretty much. I’m in the area and still have no interest in going.

I thought it was pretty cool and appropriate that they had Stephen A. and his NY crew reporting from it. Haven't seen anyone blanche so hard in the second quarter of a game since '97.

Fun times like last year and it's bigger. I understand if it's not your type of show though.

Day 2

Best day so far! Really enjoyed the day and it was PACKED! Where else can you be looking up comps, and Wemby pass behind you, then Odell Beckham passes, by, then followed by John Cena! It's such an experience!

Here are a few more tidbits:

You WON'T like the show if:

* You don't like loud music all day long. No matter where you go on the floor, you will be hearing loud banging music (from the WWE entrance area).

* You hate crowds. You have people everywhere you turn, some rushing to one place, then a huge crowd gathering to see a "celeb" at one of those "tower-booths". So, walking through them is nearly impossible.

If you are cool with the above, I would highly suggest going tomorrow. It's a shorter day, so I plan to go earlier!

I mean is it like good banging music with real instruments? Or kind of heavy bass generic DJ stuff. With a stomp and hit you vibe.

The Pacers should do a pass through of the next one when they in NY. With all their WWE cred. But play only the tunes they do during warmup and their intros. they have Siakam's "yeah yeah yeah" song, Myles' Metallica, Nembhard's Wonderwall, Nesmith's random, and hey throw in some Bruce Brown C&W.

It's all about your expectations going in. If you are looking for just a straight up card show with dollar boxes, vintage guys sitting quietly looking over binders to add to their sets, etc. stay home. This event is not for you. BUT, if you are a more open minded collector looking to see some cool grails and walk around the floor to the corporate booths and enjoy looking, but not buying $50 t-shirts, see a celebrity or two, this is the show for you!

Are there any cool events in the hobby that are not completely overrun? I mean for like serious investment and trade discussions. That are still pretty free wheeling and whatever.

I enjoyed this card shows. I attended this past Friday's show for only 3 1/2 hours, cause of family time, but there was a lot to see. I was looking for my grail card, something I would never find in a smaller NY card shows, but unfortunately, I either didn't have enough time to find it or it wasn't at the show. I considered picking up a 1997-98 Kobe Big Men on Court PSA 7 for $1000 and a 1997-98 Kobe Titanium PSA 8 for $1,100, but passed on it cause the dealers didn't want to do part cash and part trade of SGA rc auto, and I wasn't able to make up my mind if I should spend that much money on cards I like, but not a must have for my PC. I did buy a 1996 MJ rubies PSA 4 for $360, and I have seen plenty of cards I want, but outside of my budget, like 1997 Metal Championship Kobe PMG, 1996-97 Topps Chrome Kobe Refractor, 1997 UD MJ GU Jersey, a bunch of 1997 Star Rubies, and other great 90s cards.

So pretty much the non-collecting part of collecting.
