The packages that do get officially lost are typically due to user error like not affixing tracking labels properly or bad handwriting. Straight mail theft, is most likely very rare. Getting a federal job with a pension is not something most people will risk stealing a package. Now with FedEx, that is a different story...

Most buyers I have had on eBay seem to be very understanding. I have had very few issues when packages even arrived 2 weeks late. I still trust USPS more than FedEx or UPS, but that is not saying much.

This buyer is not understanding.... He lives in China and says he manages a warehouse in Portland. I said since the package shows it's in Portland send your warehouse manager to the post office to inquire. He says he doesn't know anyone on the ground there??????? You can't make this stuff up. It's for $150 zippo lighter.

Did you do a missing mail search? I just got off the phone with someone from the Boca Raton USPS center. They called me within 3 business days after I submitted the missing mail complaint. She probably knew just as much as I did with the package showing up in Guam today, but the phone call was nice. You will probably get a call from the local post office. USPS has much better customer service than most companies these days.

I have not tried yet. Guess its worth a shot.

100% do it. It is super simple and they promise a response in 3 business days. I don't think USPS knows anything we don't with tracking, but it can't hurt.
