I must have mixed up “Arena Club Offers” Arena Club determines the amount of the Arena Club Offer by analyzing recent sales of comparable cards on marketplaces and other trading card resources. Factors such as Card condition, grading, rarity, and demand are considered in this evaluation. Which have the 10% fee to use. From "Slab Safe", which is 80% of the pack price. But after you pay the 10% premium in order to enable.

But SlabSafe is still a 10% extra fee. Which you left out in your post. And it still doesn't make your assertion to "break even at worst" true. As you are now saying you can lose $100. Not break even. And if you keep the card, you still wasted $100 (10% fee) for slab safe.

80% of $900 is $720. On your $900 buy. -$180 is not even.

Again it’s the PACK value NOT what you paid. The most you stand to lose is a $100. Not too shabby it today’s hobby world with a lot higher percentage to pull something better (>$900).

I won’t go into how to calculate which pack has the best value in terms of return. I think we went over enough for today’s comprehension purposes

Are the returned funds from using Slab Safe available to be withdrawn or can they only be used as on-site credit? The 20% off + 80% offer (for +10%) is really an attractive option compared to all the other much worse wastes of money out there with wax if the funds can be taken right back out.

Courtyard, Arena from what I've seen are absolutely TERRIBLE value

I can't believe that anybody who actually participates in those platforms is making any money except for the rare person that buys one pack hits a chase and quits (which probably doesn't even exist)

I will walk through a real life example. I used one of the coupons at the National. I landed a Justin Jefferson NT RPA, but decided to sell back.

Football Pack $1,000

Insurance $100.00

25% Discount ($275.00)

Total Paid $825.00

Buyback (80% of pack value) $800

Net gain / (loss) ($25)

I had the funds from arena club wired back to my bank account immediately thereafter. Was deposited fairly quickly. I keep getting emails for free slab safe insurance or other discounts to continue using their service. Figured I would give it a run given the negligible downside with the discount

Yes, once you sell the card back it’s your money. Withdraw it at your pleasure.

I would NOT recommend buying packs back to back. I have found that each subsequent pull is less and less in value.

Use a coupon code buy a pack. Wait until the next coupon code, buy another pack…etc etc

I will have to calculate how much I am up, but I am definitely not losing money.

Thanks guys! The whole service has definitely been optimized to take advantage of degens with no control, but this all looks like a pretty nice loophole if one can control themselves. Will be giving it a shot with a baseball pack.

In the era of $1 Million dollar cards, I'd rather take the chance on new stuff but I get it.

So now the question arises how is the 3K profit handled. Will you be getting a 1099 for it?

shhhhhhhhhhhhh

If it did trigger a 1099, guess it would be more prudent to instead retrieve the card and sell it in person at a card show...

I'm convinced that nobody that buys and sells cards actually does their taxes right

Its funny to me how many people are all the sudden up in arms about breakers and re-packers "what a bunch of degenerate gamblers" meanwhile collectors have been opening packs and boxes from card companies for ages and that was "collecting."

Its gambling, its always been gambling regardless of who you buy product from. Opening a pack of cards whether from Panini, Topps, or Backyard Breaks is playing the lottery.

Unless you're buying singles, you're gambling. Stop the fake outrage. Stop telling people how to spend their money.

Awesome card. Congrats.

I have been on ebay since 2000. Back then, lots of sellers had "Dutch: auctions up to gamble on. Hell, my local card shop as a kid had "grab Bags" back in the 80s.

None of this is new. But the influence these "Repackers" have. And the price points to play at, certainly are.

Couldnt agree more. I appreciate that. As I mentioned before, it’s insane to me how others are so opinionated with how someone spends their money. When I see a break or a pickup posted anywhere, I’ll either comment positively or not comment at all. It’s none of my concern how someone spends their money. I used to break boxes all the time when it was Upper Deck, Topps, Donruss, etc., but that was years ago. I don’t like Panini products so I opt not to buy them, and prefer Arena Club over anything of Panini or even Topps. Like you said, opening boxes has always been gambling at the end of the day.

Opening retail wax is one step above lighting your money on fire so for repacks to be worse they would have to be worse than literally lighting your cash on fire. I'm talking about a real fire here.

You would be wrong but that's OK. The pimps at Fanatics have changed that to make your statement more true today. But there is a BIG difference in getting into a break Pre Pandemic vs now.

With repacks like Arena, at the worst you usually only light 50% of your cash on fire. Where with retail rips, you literally sometimes light 100% of your cash on fire.

Pre-pandemic, best player auto in Bowman breaks was usually $1500-$2500 at most for 100 cases. Post pandemic it was something like $15,000-$35,000 with multiple players at $1000+

That was a crazy time! People were paying STUPID money on those breaks

It was fun to watch from the outside.

I mean, STUPID money!
