Arena had a promotion (I believe it was targeted and not sent to everyone on Arena Club) where if you bought 10 $1,000 diamond packs, they would give you a code for a free diamond pack. They coupled this diamond pack promotion with a 15% discount code. Me, being the degenerate that I am, figured that at worst I'd break even on the buys after factoring in the discounted cost with insurance ($935 for $800 floor) and the freebie pack. I ended up buying 20 diamond packs (and received codes for 2 free diamond packs) and here are the results:
  • # of diamond packs bought (mostly baseball, but a handful of basketball and football too): 20
  • # of cards worth more than pack cost: 7/20 (highest $1,350 buyback offer)
  • # of cards worth less than pack cost: 13/20 (I believe the lowest value card was around $580 if I hadn't bought insurance)
  • Total $$$ spent: $18,895
  • Total money back via AC buyback offers: $20,646

Out of my 2 freebie Diamond packs (no insurance bought for either), I received a Griffey Jr with $1,050 buyback offer (ended up selling) and an Anthony Edwards rookie auto with a $700 buyback I sold back.

So to sum it up, I came out ahead by $1,751 in this latest exercise (and am keeping 3 Ohtani rookie cards worth between $700-950 for my PC). Counting the 3 Ohtani's, I came out ahead around $4k.

Still don't advocate going nuts on Arena Club slab packs, but for one-time opportunities like this, it's almost a no-lose situation. Lol
