If you seriously think saying Dirk was "mediocre" during the regular season is "speaking the truth" - Then you're the hater, not me

I think that's debatable
Regular Season: 23 ppg, 7 rpg, 2.6 apg

Mediocre as a superstar is quite correct

23 and 7 isn't anything to write home about... I would have taken Kevin Love and Griffin over him anyday. Both are better defenders and rebounders and just as good of scorers.

Stats like those are meaningless during the regular season - He didn't play many minutes and his FG% was a CH ... Like I said he had a lot of 24 point, 8-14 FG nights in Wins where he just didn't "pad his stats" like most superstars would ... I know this because I watched every game last season - LoL, or you could have just witnessed the PO's to know Dirk was in cruise control during the RS. I don't mind if you don't have him number 1, but don't use per game stats, when the whole goal for Dirk/Vets in general was/is to win during the season (58, unlike Griffin/Love), to get a high seed come PO-time, not get good-looking stats ...

1. Dirk Nowitzki
2. Kevin Durant
3. LeBron James
4. Derrick Rose
5. Chris Paul
6. Kobe Bryant
7. Zach Randolph
8. Dwyane Wade
9. Dwight Howard
10. Russel Westbrook

Looking at this list a second time, Wade deserves a high spot. That's the only problem with it.

Normally I hate the Mavs because my best friend is a Mavs fan, but you have to give Dirk credit for the unbelievable post season run. Even though he never established himself as a superstar in the regular season and his performance wasn't where it could have been, his amazing post season performance (what really matters) was just fantastic, and worthy of a #1 spot

ya know in that 09 series, the magic lost 1 game when jameer made a bonehead play on fisher when they were up 3 late and let fisher have a wide open 3 which he made, and cortney lee missed a layup late in another game that could have won the game for the magic..
the magic could have very well won that series..

his defensive pressure is very evident if you watch the games closely..
he moves his feet very quickly, and well he dosent jump well (lmao)...

btw i hated the mavs also..but when see what dirk did, u HAVE to give it to him..
maybe his coach is right about where he ranks..

and there is no #@#@#@#@ing way blake or love are better defenders than dirk..
as for 7 boards a game..dirk gets almost no offensive boards because he is very far away from the basket..
which the defense HAS to respect..and creates opportunities for guys to penetrate..
also dirk averaged less then 36 min a game, and oh yea he shot over 50% from the floor with alot of 3 pt attempts..also take a gander at his tiny turnover per game ratio, and the fact that if you foul him...its basically an automatic 2 points..

actually dirk shot .517 from the field, and averaged 2.4 fouls a game (very good)
and he only averaged 34 min a game..

it's a dead argument when there's a difference of opinion in how good a player is supposed to be. thats why i didn't bother throwing out numbers.

seriously? that's like saying gasol was mediocre 2 seasons ago when he was widely recognized as one of the best pfs in the league with the following stats: 18ppg 11rbs 3asts. one would argue those numbers are mediocre for a superstar too right? but you gotta look at the whole picture and the circumstances sometimes.

how many teams did the mavs blow out last season? why was dirk's minutes reduced to 33 minutes despite the fact that he dominated? how did he achieve his 23 ppg? (these are rhetorical). it's not just about the numbers. if it were, there wouldn't be so much controversy regarding melo and why he's ranked low. the numbers would indicate he is easily a top 5 player in the league, but most realize he is not, let alone top 10.

Well, yeah. When someone does well, then people are going to praise him for it. That's how basketball works.

Oh, we just have kind of different things we're talking about. I'm not a Dirk Nowitzki fan, but I still think he's good because he's been playing really well. Again, however, I'm not a fan. You're saying that now people are fans because he's winning. I would agree with that for sure, I think both are right.

Hate bandwagon fans...

Hey, are you a Celtics fan at all?
Nah, not really. Don't care about 'em a lot.

The Mavs as a team played the best in the Playoffs. Dirk played very well, especially against OKC. I don't feel that automatically makes him the NBA's best player. It definitely helped his ranking though.
