Yeah, I'm on the fence too. 1, 2 or 5? That's my fence. If I rip one or two cases, a lot goes in my PC and there is no great loss involved.

I've never opened much base UD stuff, but other than the Young Guns and full sets does any other stuff sell? I assume the Clearly Canadian cards will sell pretty well but other than that I don't know. |

Also, if Tavares comes out at $125, sell, sell, sell!!! It will probably be around Patrick Kane's level, maybe up a little bit because Tavares is Canadian. |

This is what I'm figuring out the gate. Even if I'm off by 20%, its still a great break.
201 John Tavares $80.00 202 Victor Hedman $25.00 203 Matt Duchene $40.00 204 Ville Leino $10.00 205 Evander Kane $25.00 206 Michael Del Zotto $20.00 207 James Van Riemsdyk $20.00 208 Viktor Stalberg $12.00 209 Sergei Shirokov $8.00 210 Erik Karlsson $4.00 211 Dmitry Kulikov $4.00 212 Jamie Benn $15.00 213 Ryan O'Reilly $25.00 214 Tyler Myers $20.00 215 Jason Demers $8.00 216 Jay Rosehill $8.00 217 Brian Salcido $4.00 218 Luca Caputi $4.00 219 Spencer Machacek $4.00 220 Yannick Weber $6.00 221 Artem Anisimov $8.00 222 Ivan Vishnevskiy $4.00 223 Riku Helenius $8.00 224 Peter Regin $4.00 225 Antti Niemi $10.00 226 Byron Bitz $4.00 227 John Negrin $4.00 228 Ray Macias $5.00 229 Taylor Chorney $4.00 230 Mika Pyorala $5.00 231 Alec Martinez $4.00 232 Grant Lewis $4.00 233 Cal O'Reilly $4.00 234 Jesse Joensuu $4.00 235 Michal Neuvirth $8.00 236 John Scott $4.00 237 Benn Ferriero $8.00 238 Teemu Laakso $4.00 239 Jhonas Enroth $8.00 240 Matt Beleskey $4.00 241 T.J. Galiardi $4.00 242 Kris Chucko $4.00 243 James Wright $5.00 244 Joel Rechlicz $4.00 245 Matt Pelech $4.00 246 Christian Hanson $8.00 247 Matt Hendricks $4.00 248 Mike Santorelli $4.00 249 Frazer McLaren $5.00 250 Checklist $10.00 Based these off of artifacts & ultra sale prices. Thoughts? |

Just curious...any idea how this compares to what 05-06 Series 1 was like out of the gate? |

I think Solt can speak to this too. 2005-06 Series 1 was the most hyped hockey product since 1990-91 Upper Deck French. If you pull Crosby out (and that is a big pull), the lineup quality is fairly similar. What is lacking is a big time goaltender, but that could emerge with Enroth, Niemi, Neuvirth and Helenius in this set. Of course all four of them are European, so their ceiling is limited, but still there is a chance that one will be a franchise goaltender like Lundqvist and Cam Ward are. I don't see a whole lot of thunder behind this product, but that is a result of the economy more than anything. I think I may have been a bit conservative on some of these guys. The key to selling this product is to unload the low level Young Guns quickly before they fall to $1-2. They will get $4-6 in the first week or so out of the gate just from set builders. |

I still don't know what to do with my case I have on order. In the case break I have:
Islanders, Avs, Lightning, Flyers, and Flames. Maybe I should just hold onto the case and see what these guys do in a few years then try to unload the case...should I hold or break it open, any suggestions? Don't really need to sell or need the $ right now... |

John,
Based on what you get from our group break, I'd hold if i were you. You may get a run of the YGs as it is from the group. If you don't pull a Tavares or Duchene from the group then maybe you break your second and have a complete run of YGs as a set to put away. Regardless, I think the unopened case holds its value well as a $1K min case in a couple years. |

Now that I have a case ordered, I'm wondering the same thing John is....to hold it or open it. I dabble in hockey, but not enough to know which is the best decision. Any more suggestions from the hockey guys on here would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say hold on to the case.

Remember 2006 Football though guys. Tavares isn't exactly lighting it up right now. I still think he's going to be a good one, but be wary about holding sealed wax. |

He's doing about what everyone expects him to...he's on pace for what 80 pts this season? He has 11 pts (5 G, 6 A) and the leading points rookie is James van Riemsdyk who has 13 pts (2 G, 11 A).

I'm thinking about getting a case to break and sell, but I'm sure many of the winners will be from Canada. I dont sell much hockey so I dont send international much, but the times I do I get burned half the time from people doing chargebacks. What do you guys charge or what method do you use for shipping to Canada?

I've had pretty good luck thus far selling to Canadians in the past year -probably about 20-30 transactions total - I just send it first class with the customs form filled out. I note in my listings that shipments to Canada cannot be tracked, and withhold feedback until buyer leaves theirs confirming receipt. I will probably get burned sometime, but so far it's worked out.

I've shipped probably 3,000 envelopes to Canada and probably in total got 5 chargebacks. Most are shipped first class with a customs form filled out. I honestly believe those 5 never got their cards, so I'm good with that.
