If there is one thing we know about Hanley, he'll gladly switch positions if it's for the good of the team.

He'll be happy to move to the outfield.

But can he handle it? He's never played in the OF and is brittle. Thats what worries me

Haha, I highly doubt that they signed Hanley to that much money to be an OF. That would make the contract even worse. Why not just sign Melky Cabrera then?

Because Hanleys better?

Hanley gets hurt a lot but when he is healthy, he is much better than Melky.

Putting him in LF is foolish tho, I dont like that but I have a feeling tahts the plan

Aww crap. I think my sarcasm didn't come through.

As far as him being too brittle to play the OF, that's a very real concern. He's had a tough time staying healthy playing a position he's accustomed to. Who knows what happens when he's doing something he's not familiar with.

He's perceived to be better, cause his stats have come at a premium defensive position, where he's actually not good defensively.

Red Sox have to hope Pablo doesnt let himself go (more than likely his last big contract) and Hanley stays healthy IF they do theyre great signings but if they don't well...I think Hanley will have a monster year with the Green Monster.

Well, um his stats were better regardless of the position

Last 3 year average:

Melky: 113 games 308/354/444 10 HR, 7 SB
Hanley: 123 games 295/365/508 16 HR 13 SB

Plus, Hanley averages more games, which I didnt expect.

Why not include four years, why not just do last year? Melky was suspended for 50 games the one year, which is a whole 'nother argument, but not one that was made. You put Hanley in LF, you have an older version of Melky Cabrera at best.

I'm glad the sox got him. I was worried the Jays would open the vault on him too. This'll either be a great signing or a complete disaster. I can honestly see it going either way.

Picked the last 3, I could go the entire career if you would like and it would further my point. 2012 was Melky's best year, which was included.

Melky suspended should still count against him. Putting Hanley in LF still gets you a better bat with more power than Melky.

Plus Hanley is 9 months older than Melky, not sure how much of an older version you think he will be.

I hate both of these signings with a burning passion. I would be having a field day if I were a Boston haTeR!

And four years ago, Hanley was garbage. Outside of his monstrous second half a couple of years ago, he hasn't been particularly outstanding. He my SS in my keeper league, I followed him closely.

It's a year older in his 30's. Oh, and there's one other thing, Melky is ACTUALLY an OF. Having Hanley in front of the monster would likely conjure up at least a couple memories of Manny Ramirez. He thinks too much on the field, so I suppose that might help him.

My point was, you can't just plug a guy in the OF cause he's a subpar defensive IF and expect him to be an adequate OF.

MLB trade rumors is saying now that the deal for Sandoval is not done yet.

7:04am: Gustavo Vasquez says no agreement has been reached and that his client is still weighing offers, WEEI.com’s Alex Speier reports (Twitter link).

We agree on the OF part, I said I dont like that idea but Hanley is a superior hitter regardless of what end point you wanna look at his stats and regardless of position.

And he played more games than Melky in the last 3 years

Its risky putting him in LF, I dont really like it but give me the guy with a superior bat over Melky.

I personally feel these are "Splash Signings" for NESN.

Name one other team that would shell out 100 Mil for Sandoval. Not even the Yankees are that stupid.

God I hate these signings. Did I mention that?

Well the Yankees did spend a ton of Mark Texiera and Brian McCann, McCann who was awful in his year of the deal.

Not really NESN signings when you finish last 2 of the last 3 years.

I dont like the Sandoval deal but I am fine with Hanley

When Hanley is on the DL for three straight months with a "sore" hamstring come find me.

Bah....another Sox season over before it begins.

Despite the PED pop, I trust Melky about 10x more than Hanley. Remember when he quit on the Marlins? He looks like Chuck Knoblauch at SS at times in the field.

Well he's not playing SS in Boston, so there's really no need to worry about how he looks like a guy who wound up having the yips.

Just because he has the last name as Manny doesnt mean he's related to him.
