The exquisite /199 may be the official rookie. Time will tell. I do think the black diamond /99 will hold value. They are indeed real diamonds and /99 which may have them competing with the ice rookie.

In Hockey most player consider the top three True RC to own are The Cup ARP, SPA, and YG. If you are trying to get for the best price, hold off on the Young Guns for a bit. Unless he comes back and scores like Gretzky in his prime, they will likely come diwn a bit.

Apologize for bumping a five year old thread, but figured it might not be worth starting a new thread to ask a related question.

Is the 2015 exquisite rpa (from the cup product) connor mcdavid’s second most-expensive rookie year card? There haven’t been that many verifiable sales that I can find of the other possible competitors to that title. I understand the cup rpa is #1, and I understand that some don’t consider the exquisite a true rpa, but I’m really asking about desirability as measured by market price - is the exquisite 2nd only to the cup?

It MIGHT be. High-grade copies of his FWA or FWAP are challenging for that position. And right now...who even knows?

I personally find most of The Cup RPAs to be very unattractive cards. His Young Guns is a great photo and like said above his FWA is a great looking card too.

I can totally see young guns having more collectors, and the sp future watch has a big following too, I know...but I was more curious about what the market is saying through highest prices and my impression was that those two aren’t anywhere near the exquisite in price, right? Seems like the population count of both of those are just way too high to be competitive price wise?

Maybe the emblems of endorsement? Black diamond or Ultimate? I just haven’t seen prices for a lot of these...

I would venture to say it's Cup /99 and then Exquisite /97 (from the Cup), followed by UD Ice /99 or Ultimate /99. I realize FWA are high up there as well currently, but there are so few Ultimate and Ice /99 that's it's kind of hard to say. For what it's worth, a BGS 9.5 (17k CAD) and BGS 10 Ice /99 (13k USD) sold within the last 3 months, albeit before the rise in prices within the last month.

Long term I’d always go for a true RPA, but Exquisite is a bit of an exception since it’s a strong brand connected to one of the most iconic RPA’s with LeBron.
So Exquisite will always go for a Premium even as a Rookie Year card.

the CUP RPA will always become the most expensive one. it will have the BK exquisite effect once the big investors from outside joins the hockey bandwagon. Which is already happening!

The 2015 #201 Mcdavid Young guns BGS Pristine 10's are still largely available but still relatively scarce in numbers. Black labels are extremely rare but unaffordable now.

This card will be the most widely recognized rookie card for collectors and the general mass public. Will be iconic and similar to Gretzky, Jordan, Lemieux, Lindros, Griffey Junior, Jeter, Crosby, Ovechkin, Matthews.

BGS POPULATION REPORT:

Pristine 10: 502 (5.5%)
Black Label Pristine 10: 35 (0.3%)
Gem-Mint 9.5: 7060 (77.2%)

Total BGS submissions: 9144 (100%)

PSA POPULATION REPORT:

PSA 10: 1977(68.8%)
PSA 9: 707 (24.6%)

Total PSA submissions: 2873 (100%)

40K for his RPA is insane. Imagine spending that on McDavid when you could get a Lebron for that much.

On that note, why would anyone spend that on Lebron when you could get a nice Jordan or Gretzky for that price?

If its an Spa/Ultimate Lebron way better/nicer than some overproduced paper like Jordan/Gretzky.

Hey guys I don't know anything about hockey cards I'm mainly into football. I know about Mcdavid and im looking to buy one of his RC's. Which product and what card is the best one to own based on price, desirability and future value. Thanks in advance for the info.

Fair enough but the context of the original question raised was what is Mcdavid's best card to own based on price, desirability and future value.

Yes, this is exactly right with regard to the question in the most recent bump of this thread...more specifically I was asking about the exquisite/97 vs the other options out there without regard for “value” but more looking purely at dollar price as an indicator of desirability.

I do think the traditional cup rpa/99 is awesome, but wanted to look at the other rookie-year options too, and not just RPAs but other 2015 rookie auto/patch options like emblems of endorsement or foundation autos or honorable numbers.

It will be interesting to see how prices of these other cards from The Cup start to do as non hockey buyers come into the market.

Many of those cards like foundations/honorable numbers have generally not been considered rookie cards from my experience. I definitely see more value in Exquisite vs the True RPA /99. They look better too.

Ive picked up a few McDavid cards in the last few weeks, but I feel like I’m chasing the flipper bois right now with McDavid and Matthews. People are flipping them for double by the week! I may wait until the offseason to buy a big one like Exquisite. Or does this become a Mahomes situation where the train just left the station?

Tonight’s pwcc auction is an interesting opportunity to observe and directly compare where the market sees some of the different mcdavid RCs we discussed awhile back…6 different high grade versions of his 2015 cup/exquisite/FW ending on the same night…

Just checked out the listings and this one caught my eye. Insane card. I would've subbed Beckett though with subgrades instead of PSA authentic.
