Everyone else has a more durable ICE but also need to replace the other components and have to take bigger drops.

I think today the one stopper was way faster - as long as you didn't puncture. The two stoppers like McLaren and the AT's ended up nowhere. Ferrari had no pace but ended up taking points off McLaren due to 1 stopping. RB made a massive mistake in 2 stopping Perez.

Good points. And I didn’t know that about the engines, that they could change them out after they take one? Unless I misunderstood you

Yeah, engines are basically pooled and when they take a new engine they are basically adding a new engine to the pool. They'll often move between them within a weekend, typically as you go through the season you'd use the more worn ones for practice and fit a lower mileage for the qually and the race. They also change up depending on track, eg you can run a fairly well used one at Monaco but you want a fresh one at Monza.

Abu Dhabi could be a real battle if Hamilton wins in Saudi Arabia.

Hope neither one DNFs in 2 weeks.

Yeah, imagine the winner for the championship comes down to the last lap! For all of the races completed the entire year and one lap determines the winner.

I thought these were decent impressions of the drivers.

2008 was decided on the last lap, for a few seconds after he crossed the line it looked like Massa was WDC before Hamilton passed Glock on the penultimate corner of the entire season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pKsxtzfVbQ

This should be an exciting race to watch, especially with the top two so close. Looking forward to Sunday.

Surprised only one crash today. Those speeds and tight corners equals smash up derby

Hamilton summoned to the stewards for ignoring double waved yellows and impeding. The impeding won't likely come to anything as there were no flags and was outside the zone mentioned in the directors notes. Will be interesting to see how how the yellow is dealt with though as it was literally out for a second. If there was a visible yellow he should have slowed down regardless and will absolutely get penalised, if it was so short no physical yellow even came out he'll get away with it. I haven't seen any onboard footage from his car yet though.

edit: just seen the onboard, he definitely go through two lights. I can't 100% tell if they are white or yellow, but if they are yellow it is a slam dunk penalty. Not up to the drivers to decide if a flag is warranted or not, if you see one you lift.

Ok so no penalty, it sounds like the footage circulating was unrelated to the investigation lol and based on the bold there was literally no way he could have known the yellow was activated

"The Race Director reported to the Stewards that the double yellow flag warning on the
FIA Marshalling System was activated at Light Panel Number 6 accidentally, for less
than 1 second. As the on-board video of Car 44 (to be released by the Commercial
Rights Holder following this Decision) clearly shows, there was no yellow flag
displayed, no yellow lights were displayed to that driver and the yellow warning light
was not visible on the driver’s steering wheel
.

Unlike other incidents this year, there was no yellow flag or yellow light displayed to
the driver (the driver already being well into the marshalling sector when the system
was briefly activated) hence no breach of the regulations has occurred."

Hamilton takes pole but Verstappen hits the wall and takes P3 with Bottas at P2. Will be interesting as always tomorrow.

Oooff...Max on the way to pole most likely and hits the wall in the final sector. What a bad break for him. Mercedes on 1-2 is huge.

Wow. Will be very interesting tomorrow, the Red Bulls are better on the softs, Mercedes the better on the hards. If Max is going to win he has to get ahead early by being aggressively. Hopefully he doesn't need to take a gearbox penalty, it would be a real shame for the title fight to be influenced by that sort of thing.

Those first 2 turns could play a huge role at the start. 2 Mercedes followed by Verstappen. Will Bottas be able to keep Verstappen behind him? Hamilton wasn't thrilled with Bottas a few races ago. Will Bottas be more aggressive tomorrow? Could cause a nice bottleneck on that first turn.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised by multiple cars out on lap 1

Yes turn one could be a tow truck drivers dream. Pit stops will be key if you can catch a virtual safety car at the right time. Would place any kind of money on not having all 20 finish. Turn one will be really interesting to see how bottas and verstappen head into it and then next turn if bottas can get through one even or ahead does he squeeze verstappen on that wall. Race could be lost by then

Will this red flag cause Hamilton his title shot?

Still a long way to go. Does Verstappen have to pit again?
