Solid ESPN article on what aces look like then vs now;

Haven't had a Mason Miller update in a while for all of you who doubted that he has the best stuff of any pitcher ever.
Last 16 appearances. 0 runs on 0 XBH and 34k in 16 innings. I'm sure there are numerous records/first mixed in this streak as well. Gonna go down as amazing trade for Padres when he's a starter next year |

Hunter Greene was throwing 102 in the 9th last night. I'd say his stuff is better than Millers, because he can do it more than one inning. Will be interesting to see if Miller can do it as a starter (if given the chance). I suspect several guys could have that stuff for 1 inning. Starting is the true test of a pitcher's stuff.

As far as Miller starting, it will be interesting but also important to know how freakishly good his stuff is for how little pitching he has done. He was a terrible d3 pitcher for a while, 1 good year at low level d1 and logged like 30 career innings in the minors. Then A's said F it your stuff is awesome go start. Tosses a 7 inning no hitter in like 3rd career start having thrown like 100 innings in his career vs non d3 hitters Then A's said #@#@#@#@, your stuff is to good are forearm hurt for a few days, better make you a closer so we can trade you just in case you had Tommy John. Meanwhile Reds took correct approach of we don't care if you have TJ we care that you come back throwing 102 in the 9th and here we are |

Doesn't throw 100mph...but gets enough people out to be #5 in MLB for pitchers WAR at 6.0 (trails Skubal and Brown in the American League) in 17 starts (other leading SPs have 30-31 starts). 1.35 ERA (Skenes 2.03), 0.87 WHIP (Skubal 0.88). 3 hrs given up in 106 IP. Not too shabby for starting the season in the minors with no guarantees of making back to MLB this year..."outcast" and on nobody's radar start of the season. One more start (in NYY on Friday) to see if he can get to 10 wins. Arguably the best pitcher since the all-star break. Looking forward to a full season next year for Trevor Rogers.

Rough start today, but calmed down and got into a grove. Next year I hope we see him take another step forward.

I was pleased with his last outing of the season. Especially on the same day this arrived. I love his Bowman Chrome RC because it features a photo from his MLB debut. I’m a Homer, for sure, but I really do think his future is bright.

What a nice season for him. FINALLY established as a reliable guy who can keep his team in games when he isn’t super sharp with the occasional dominant outings sprinkled in too. The shoulder and elbow woes are obviously concerning- I was actually pretty surprised they rehabbed him back for those last couple starts instead of shutting him down in September for the year. Yay Ed!

Would just lite to point out that anyone who doesn't think Mason Miller has the best stuff ever is just wrong.
Fastballs below 102 today: 0 Hitters that have made contact in 2 appearances: also 0 runs allowed last 22 outings: 0. (4 hits lol) XBH allowed: also 0 Since coming to SD (he's allowed 1 HR which is freak outlier). Asside from that 0 ERA and 51 Ks in 25 innings. and before everyone says you cant say that doesn't count, of course it does. But when you otherwise have 0 XBH allowed and give up a fluke HR on the fastet pitch in baseball history to leaave yard its outlier Last edited by johnlocke36; 10-01-2025 at 04:38 PM. |

Roki handled that pressure well closing out the Reds. Got to be a confidence booster for him and the Dodgers. I thought he was hyperventilating for a sec but then fired a 102mph fastball
