Hoping to help bury the shipping convo, figured I'd post a card that I bought, not necessarily thinking it was too great, but picked it up just because. Once I got it in hand I was very impressed and like it much more than I thought I would. What other cards fall into that category for you? I've been looking back at some past cards today and some of them look much better than I remember.

ok, for the sake of conversation, i'll throw this out there...

of the 20 cards in the project which of those cards do you consider to be their iconic RC?

and what I mean by that is that when you think of a player and his rookie card what is the first card that you think of. obviously there are some players in the set that do not have their rookie card represented (Mays, Teddy), And there are some that obviously they had to go with their topps version

Brett jumped to mind first.

A few randoms that I thought were good-and-bad on-line but I really like in-person:
1) Rochester Rickey: In person, I like the dorky borders. The colors don't clash that much. And it's a simple, impressionistic painting that doesn't really look like anything else in the set.

2) Siff Mays: I ripped it when I first saw it, but I'm glad that I bought it anyway. The drawing of Mays in the center is sorta beautiful in its own way, one of my favorite non-Rochester drawings in the set. My eyes just treat the doodling on the border as background noise.

3) Grotesk Brett: Not flashy, but I can stare at this all day. Symmetric and pleasing.

Just because of my age: 1) Brett, 2) Clemente, 3) Mattingly (sorry, '84 Donruss, but '84 Topps has such a cooler design). Hank Aaron would have been my easy #1, if only they had included him!

The LEAST "iconic" card in the set to me is '69 Ryan. That may be the 5th Nolan Ryan card that I free-associate with "iconic Nolan Ryan card".

Default Topps Project 2020 is the worst product since 1991 Fleer

I agree 100% with this list....would be my list to the tee....although sometimes, I think of '85 Fleer for Gooden....that silver border still holds a special place with me from when I was growing up Same with Clemens and Puckett...

I guess I'm biased because I own one and not the other, but I think of 09 Trout instead of 11 Update.

Trout (if not Rickey) was probably my #4, but apparently even Fucci thought that 2009 Bowman should have been included instead.

The problem with some of these is that I've never really thought much of some of their rookie cards. To me, Koufax is the killer lefty in LA, not the kid with the errant fastball in Brooklyn. I never remember '59 Gibson being all that talked about or desired. When I think 1983 Topps rookies, I think of Boggs instead of Gwynn since Boggs was bigger through the early '90s, even though Gwynn has more long-term popularity (AND more long-term impact on me).

Agree with pretty much the whole list except for Gooden. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 84 FU and TT, but at the age I was when I became a fan those were unobtainable. Pack pulled is where it had to be for me. It’ll always be 620 in my eyes.

The 1985 set was where I really got hooked. I got a few pack in 83, 84, but I was only about 5-6 years old. 1985 Topps is when I can first remember opening packs and going to my first card show. Clemens, Gooden, Davis, Puckett, and especially all of the Tigers, were the coolest thing I had ever seen. So, I time, still think of that as my main Gooden rookie.

I can imagine Wheeler somewhere, buried under 10,000 P2020 cards, including 10 Mike Trout autos, 3 gold frames, and 2 Frank Thomas autos, smiling when he thinks of that awesome Fucci George Brett card.

I don’t even know if I ever even pack pulled a Gooden. I remember having a little 85, more 86, and then the big boom for me was 87 Topps. We had card clubs in school so I do know that I at least got a few through trading.

Do you think maybe he’s enjoying them too much, swimming through them a la Scrooge McDuck before shipping them to us? If so, I am ok with a little longer wait. Would like video though.

Yet the single card seemed to ship dead last.

In the shipping world, people tend to do the largest orders first. You know why? It takes less effort to make a few large orders than a lot of small orders.

But then again, we’re all acting like a third party flipper is the hero here. The guy probably is cherry picking the best centered cards for his inflated resale stock and that is taking longer for the card that people prepaid months ago for to get them in hand.

This little art piece looks great in hand. I don’t recall ordering it though and it came in with the Grotesk-Trout card today.
Both look great.

I'm more worried the tower of cards collapsed on him like the principal skinner's newspapers when bart worked for the mob. Yeah its an old reference, deal with it lol

I'm of the same mind frame. If it didn't come from a pack, I didn't consider it a card worth pursuing. I kept that mind set for about 20 years until I relented and bought the 1984 Fleer update set. So, for me, when I think of rookies:

1) Gooden, Puckett, Clemens 1985 Topps
2) Ripken 1982 Topps #20
3) McGwire 1985 Topps
4) Bonds 1987 Donruss
5) Mattingly 1984 Donruss

Takes me back. And 1987 was my first BIG year, too! Loved that set and opened lots and lots of packs. Both of the candy stores in the area knew to save the display boxes for me, too. Such good and simpler times.

The early Rochester borders still aren't my favorites, but that Siff Mays looks better each time that I see it. I saw that his Rickey is live, too, and it's really been growing on me.
