That was awesome. Sign of a coach who knows his team and a team that knows what the coach expects. Little moments like that sometimes light a fire under the team's ass.

I wouldn't have been upset had my Pistons stole that one away though. They need all of the wins they can get at this point

An absolute stinker in the first half by Donovan.. but had a good second half going 6/10 and 4/4 at the line.. 7 assists.. most importantly a big Jazz W.

He had that big dunk off of his miss and the back cut where Rudy found him right on the money, and the fadeaway from the free throw line that essentially put momentum in the Jazz favor for good. 4 straight missed free throws by Conley and Gobert almost blew it though.

On to the next!

Winners win. I’ll take it. Back at it Tuesday when Zion comes to town. Looking for a potential 10-4 start!

28-7-4 for Spida tonight, another game where he could have went ahead and just scored 40+ but this kid understands the bigger picture. The Jazz are rolling right now. And I’m still picking up #’d non chronicles rc’s for under $20 (admittedly an outlier but still)... let’s go!

Observations after tonight:

The Jazz are killing it

Mitchell looks great

Zion was capable of putting up 32 against possibly the best rim protector in the game

The Pelicans...need to make some trades, and fast.

Great night for Spida.. 36-7-5, 6/8 from 3, Jazz win streak at 7. He was clearly the best player on the floor tonight,

He became the fastest player in NBA History to reach 600 career 3’s.

Amazing.

Love the way Don handled it. Just said he’s gonna keep working and get better. Shaq came across as haterish at the half time segment, he eased up after Don gave him the response he was looking for. Not a softy like Paul George.

Regardless of what Shaq says, Mitchell is clearly a superstar. And only getting better.

Shaq is a boob. He acts like he was winning games at the line and could hit shots at all three levels. Shaq was great bc it was 7’1 350 pounds and in an era of pounding the paint. He’d be a liability in today’s shot heavy, position-less game.

Donovan is literally better than any of the other young guys not named luka and gets treated like a journeyman.

Tonight the tnt team agreed he’s an annual all star talent but not a superstar... okay sure... but dame lillard is? Paul George is? Russell Westbrook is? All these guys have flaws too but basically have become shoe-ins to being a “superstar”. Donovan is 24 and IMO has a higher ceiling than any of the other three guys I’ve listed here.

I just get tired of all the inconsistency bs. He’s literally a better career shooter than any of the three guys I’ve listed here. So what gives?

All I do know is that this jazz team is deep, selfless and probably the most connected team in the league. As long as their top 9 guys stay healthy... Watch-out.

Playing in Utah doesn’t help his cause either. I was hoping he wouldn’t sign the max contract and move to a bigger market. Oh well he’s a baller going to have to make his legacy in Utah.

I think Mitchell gets forgotten because he has great games of 30+ points and then he'll follow up with under 15-20. I think that's where the inconsistency talk comes from. The team he's on doesn't call for him to dominate the shots, so there's always going to be that mix of huge games and so so games. Also while his 24 ppg is good, its not top tier (ranks 17th in the NBA) and he only averages 4.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game, thats not "Superstar" numbers to the masses. Again, the team that he's on and the way they play doesn't call for him to have to take over every game (which he can do) but that hinders him from taking the next step into superstar status.

His ego isn't superstar level that's the problem

I mean luka has more sub 20 games this year on less games played than Donovan. Oh and is 7-7, oh and shoots 28% from three. But he gets triple doubles and is crowned the “king” so superstar regardless? And I’m not comparing the two. I just don’t get how anyone can watch Donovan (they don’t that’s the problem) and think he’s not a superstar of the league. But I’ll just stay humble like he does, “aight”

He’s not tall enough, not fast enough, not a big enough ego. The thing is is I don’t think people really understand him. Those close say he’s the most competitive alpha dog leader they have ever met. Kinda looks that way. But people prefer ben Simmons- 12.2 ppg and 10% from three bc he’s tall and he’s a Dick? But bless ben Simmons heart for being a 5th year rookie. Tough being a rookie in the NBA.

"He gets triple doubles" thats all you need to say. If Mitchell were scoring 30+ some games and then under 20 with consistent triple doubles in other games, then he would absolutely be seen as a superstar. He just disappears some games and thats enough to be seen as inconsistent by most

Sometimes it takes people 5-10 years to open their eyes.

Took them more than 10 for Lebron...

They gave a stat last night that I had to double check to make sure it was correct.

240 career games... Only 2 double doubles. That's why they said he was a star and not a superstar. He doesn't do enough of the other stuff to help his team win. He's an elite scorer for sure... Way above average in that category.

In fairness he’s been a 2 guard basically up until this year (assist up every year) and this year he’s become more of a primary ball handler. But no one watches the jazz, they get the fewest national games a year of any team. So they just need to keep winning and come playoff time show the world what they are.

I love Donovan......read some of this thread, and started comparing prices to say Trae. Donovan Prizm 10 doing 300-350, Trae Prizm 10 doing 550-625. Pretty wild, I love Trae too but Donovan is a much more complete player.

Appreciate it. Yeah we’ve been saying that for years. Oh and Donovan held trae to 4 the other night on 1-11 shooting...

Looking at stats... Donovan and McCollum mirror one another stat for stat....it's crazy.

Would you consider McCollum a superstar? I don't...he's a great player but not a superstar. If you have 2 categories of superstar... I'd agree McCollum would be a superstar.... otherwise he's just a star.

Elite Superstar - Superstar - Star

I put LeBron, Steph, Kawhi, KD, Harden, Giannis, DameTime, AD and maybe Luka based on age in the Elite group...maybe a couple others... Mitchell, McCollum, Trae, Beal, Tatum, PG, Embiid etc in Superstar... Really great players...just not in the top tier.
