Don Mattingly set the MLB record for most grand slams in a single season with 6 in 1987. He never hit a grand slam before that year or after that year.

Roberto Clemente is the only player in history to hit a walk-off-inside-the-park grand slam home run.

For those interested, here's the game:

Cecil Fielder in 1990 hit a Home Run out of the Park at Tiger Stadium for his 41st home run of the season. In 1991 Fielder hit a Home Run out of the Park at Milwaukee County Stadium for his 41st Home Run of the season. The number of Home Runs leaving both parks in their history is extremely low - Cecil is the ONLY player to hit one out on the fly at Milwaukee County Stadium (60 years) in Left Field, while only 4 players hit one over the Left Field Roof at Tiger Stadium (1938 Left Field as we know it, 1999 - 62 years)

Babe Ruth led his league in home runs 12 times.

Barry Bonds led his league in home runs twice.

Interestingly, Bonds had six 40-HR seasons in which he didn’t lead the league. Has anyone else had that many 40-HR seasons and in which they didn’t lead the league?

Yes, Adam Dunn.

In fact, of the 12 players who have hit 40 HR at least six times, Dunn is the only one to never win a home run title. (He reached 40 HR exactly six times. Also, he hit exactly 40 HR in four consecutive seasons.)

With the Angels finishing this season with a .451 win percentage, they now have three of the five worst winning percentages in seasons in which one of their players won MVP -- all of which have come in the past eight seasons.

Code:
YEAR, TM. WIN %	MVP
1991 Orioles	.414	Cal Ripken Jr.
2003 Rangers	.438	Alex Rodriguez
2019 Angels	.444	Mike Trout
2023 Angels	.451	Shohei Ohtani
2016 Angels	.457	Mike Trout

Ignore the games column. That appears to just be the cumulative games played in those 40-HR seasons.

Very cool. Thank you. So Dunn did it the most times without ever leading the league. How many guys hit 40 just one time and led the league that year?

I was wondering that, too. That’ll take a little more research…

Could it be that todays analytics have created a different measurement of Value ? Winning was the #1 key factor. Producing in critical opportunists was a key factor but now it’s about creating opportunities that are then compiled. We all know what that compiles into ^.

Blake Snell has two more Cy Young Awards than he does Complete Games.

Just think if this number was cut down to ‘only’ 10,000 ….. this Seasons entire outcome would probably look completely different

Derek Jeter has 200 career Post Season hits, the number 2 all time leader “Bernie Williams” has 128 hits.

The 1937 Detroit Tigers had 4 players with at least 200 hits while all batting over .330.

Courtesy of the incomparable Sarah Langs...

There has been just one 1-0 game in the last 50 seasons where the lone run came on a SB of home:

5/21/97, CLE -- SB by Jim Thome

As in, the Jim Thome who only stole 19 bases in his life, and only four more after 1997? The who is even nuttier than the what.

Former Braves & Bluejays manger holds the record for being ejected from games, 162 times. He has a full season worth of ejections.

Only 133 more for Aaron Boone to break the record. Maybe he'll be saved by the introduction of the Automated Strike Zone system.

There are still 4 numbers that have never been worn by players on a baseball Diamond -
80, 86, 89 and 92. There were 6 but 2 recently were selected.

When the Cubs signed Craig Counsell to his $40 million contract to MANAGE the team, that would have been the White Sox 12th largest contract ever given to anyone, player or manager.

With the way the Yankees retire numbers, I'm sure these will be needed soon.

The most iconic baseball song written by 2 men in 1908 - Take Me Out To The Ball Game. Both writers of the song had never gone to a game.
