Hitting 50 home runs probably leads to the next bump.

Changing it up just a bit...

When Ohtani had his first career multi-HR game, Topps immortalized the moment with game-used relic cards. Topps acquired 2nd base for the cards as authenticated by MLB authentication stickers on each relic piece. Here are the /1, /5, and /10 versions I was lucky enough to grab from Topps that day:

Shortly after these sold out, I located the other two bases, (First and Third), from that game and was able to acquire those. These were the only 3 bases used during the game, (one Topps acquired, and my 2), as nobody really knew the game might be historic. Here are the bases:

I'm planning on making a wall display some day in the shape of a ball diamond with the bases where they belong, (2nd base being made up of the relic cards I acquired, and game-used balls from that day in the pitcher's spot and home plate. Might be a neat display for a man cave.

Don't they change out the bases at games every 3 innings or so? While's it's cool having 2 of the bases from the game, I think that there are still two sets of bases out there from the game somewhere.

Not that game. Those were the only 3 bases used that game.

They only change out the bases multiple times a game when they know something historic will be or might be happening. Since they had no idea this would be Ohtani's first multi-HR game, these were the only 3 bases they were prepared for.

Ohtani had 4 hits that game, of which 2 were home runs. He actually touched all 3 of these bases multiple times. Some of those cleat marks are undoubtedly his.

(When they change out the bases multiple times, the MLB authentication stickers lead you to a page that states, "used innings 1-3, or 4-6, or 7-9", etc. These 3 bases were "used all 9 innings").

Edit: Recap from the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiBV-KXDR-8 I didn't realize until just now that those were also Ohtani's first home runs on the road. Kinda cool.

That's awesome then. Thanks for the info i always thought they swapped them out more often, even on regular games. (tried to google but couldn't find any concrete info)

That definitely makes those bases way more valuable in the future if he can stay healthy for 10+ years.

Staying healthy for 10+ more years would be incredible.

I think all of baseball would rejoice if that happens.

Do people even realize how crazy that is, especially when pitching? More AB and more protected in the lineup. Historical numbers are possible and if we look back at history, except in the steroid era, most players has hr slumps in August. I still hunk he is going to get to 50.

10 wins
20 SB
30 IWB
50 hR
100 rbi

He is adding to a record that might never be broken, except by him.

I'm surprised there isn't more love for his Topps Gold Label Class1 RC. From my knowledge it's the only licensed non-insert card which shows him hitting and pitching.

What's even more 'shocking' - feeling melodramatic - is that the base is more expensive ( on comc at least) than its Black parallel. Just terrible....

I'm getting my first SGC sub back soon. All low end Ohtani ( who cares right. He is Babe Ruth mark II after all). I'm thinking of slabbing everything I have of him, even my Bowman sky blue parallels which are dinged.

I'm feeling the Shohei love this morning.

I think he will. That the MVP debate is still going is funny. If you voted tomorrow it shouldn't even be close.

I hope he racks up a couple more wins on the mound, keeps his ERA below 3 and his BA over .270

That would be something.

Incredible piece of memorabilia. And from a historical perspective even cooler with the defunct Indians name on the plate.

So awesome.

This is from the one and only regular season game I got to see Ohtani play in person. My wife and I were running late and got to the gates around first pitch. As we walked around the outfield to our seats on the third base side, I noticed Ohtani was up so we stopped near the left field foul pole. There is an open area in extreme left field by the pole, so I went up to the railing and started to watch. Literally, ten seconds later, Ohtani cranked his first HR off Mike Clevinger, with the ball just clearing the rail about twenty five yards to my left. I was so freaking pumped. His second homerun a few innings later was absolutely crushed. He ended up getting 4 hits...such a great day!

Grew up in Vegas, spent our summers in L.A. My dad was a huge Angels fan, got me into baseball and have been going strong ever since! Transplant to Ohio in my early teens, and while I have fond memories of Buckeye football championships (I went to OSU) and Cleveland Cavs comeback in 2016, game 6 of the 2002 World Series with Angels miracle comeback over Barry Bonds and the Giants sticks out as one of my greatest sports memories...

That's a great shot. An enterprising P70 artist could kinda dial in their own flare and turn Ohtani into the main card (with just enough of Vladdy on there) and a wider-view Ohtani-Vlad as the chase.
