You would think that someone you claim should be the MVP shouldn't need a final push of votes to make the All Star Game. I mean Judge had the most votes in the AL.

Judge only has 17% of his position's votes... whereas Devers is at 25%... who is doing better???

Fortunately for Judge, he faces weak competition for his OF position. And you get to vote for three players. So it make it pretty easy for him. The fact he doesn’t have 3mm votes is very surprising. How many votes would he have if you could only vote for one OF player???

Devers plays at the most competitive position in the league, with way more of the top 5-10 position players in the league than any others. With only one vote allowed for the position.

The end impact? An example: in 2019 Devers was the 3rd most valuable player in the AL and didn’t even make the all star game.

Fan All-Star voting is a sham. Trevino is more deserving than Kirk on Toronto!

It still remains though if Devers is such a great candidate for MVP, you would think that others outside of Boston would be voting for him and you wouldn't need this final push reminder. I look at his stats vs Jose Ramirez's stats and its a no doubter that Devers should be starting. Add in the fact Devers is compiling his stats in a much tougher Division and it's a no brainer for me.

I find it interesting that fans don't get to vote for pitchers. Based on stats, the AL Manager would be setup if he took the main starters and relievers from the Astros and the Yankees.

You'd make a great statistics person in media or politics using whatever statistic you want to throw out to manipulate a point. Who cares about percentage when he still has the highest vote total of any player in MLB; even higher than the almighty Trout.

You lost me when you said Trevino > Kirk. In no world is that true

So you think getting three votes for OF (while other positions get one) gives no advantage to Judge for vote total??? Fascinating!

The fact Judge doesn’t have even more votes is a shock, if he’s a credible MVP candidate playing the easiest position to get votes.

The real question you should ask: how is it possible that Judge isn't even considered a top 3 OF player by ~50% of the voters??? If you got to chose top three (or even top two) its not a stretch to think Devers and JoRam would be chosen on ~75% of those ballots.

I'm not following your logic. At 3B, you have about 15 people to choose from for All Star. In the Outfield, you have about 45 choices and you get to pick 3. It seems outfield votes would be a lot harder to come by since you have substantially more choices to pick from thus diluting the vote total for any one player.

While Kirk has been overwhelming the better hitter, I just think Trevino is more valuable to his team with the big hits he has had when they needed to tie or win games, handling the best pitching staff in the AL, and his numerous crucial game pickoffs and throwing runners out stealing.

So you are telling me that its understandable that ~50% of the voters don't think Judge is a top-3 outfielder? Who is credible after Trout???

You could make the list 100 people long. Doesn't make it less likely that Judge deserves a top-3 OF vote.

Maybe I've got rose colored glasses on for Judge (as I'm a fan), but I've got to imagine most ballots should look like:

1) Judge
2) Trout
3) home team player

And maybe some folks swap the first two.

The fact that 50% of the people don't even consider him worthy of a top-3 listing is shocking to me.

As I said before, the All Star voting is a sham. I haven't been to a game since pre-COVID, but I still remember them handing out ballots and putting a nice reminder up on the scoreboard to vote across the board for your home team players. And just like idiots with politics who vote down the party line, there are plenty of people who do just what the scoreboard tells them to do.

At least neither of our guys here are Xander… who is hands down the best SS in the AL and didn’t even make the cut for the final vote

Xander has been 3x as valuable as the leader for the position, and 50% more valuable than the runner up.

I thought this was a Devers thread.....Don't the Judge fanboys have their own thread?

It’s a sign Devers is relevant to Judge’s MVP aspirations

I'm glad this slump isn't completely tanking his stats, but he has looked completely out of sync since Cora gave him that that gratuitous day off.

It's like a Real Housewives thread or something - the guy is hitting .327 with 45 xbh in 78 games.

It's baseball. There are slumps.

He's hitting .327 with 45 xbh in 78 games. Good lord. Those are insane numbers.
