True, but rare doesn’t always mean valuable which actually got me thinking. Outside of 2011 update, 2018 series 2 and 2018 update, have any other Topps hobby boxes (1,2 or update) from the past decade doubled in price?

What boxes are under priced now?

Anything 2020 topps chrome (hobby, jumbo, retail) - up 50 to 75 percent since Dec 2020, but lou bob, bichette, Lewis, arozarena, grisham, lux, Jesus lizard, Dustin may, yordan, solak, Chang, bradley plus 20 guys I forgot etc
At 350 a hobby prices are nuts, but when you look at 2019 at nearly 1k for tatis mostly it might be worth it
I own some of this product
Possible fear - bichette and lou bob are redemptions or partially redemptions I think, could this hurt the value past 2023

2018 bowman chrome, under 400 for Two autos
Own none of this product but only know yordan is in it plus rookie autos of acuna, ohtani etc tatis also? Rookie autos I know are tough pulls though
Is the rest of the check list super weak ?

I kept cost basis of every box I have bought (for tax reasons if I sell). I was buying at issue so box prices varied from 45-100 a box. The jumbo stuff that started showing up the past decade was around 125-150 and i thought that was getting out of hand. My return on these boxes based on current MV is astronomical. Prior to this, some of them did well while some lagged. Now nothing lags. Given that I won't buy another box at current prices. It would be the equivalent of lighting money on fire. Boxes are coming out at 300-400 at issue. That's not inflation. It may be supply/demand but its not sustainable. It just isn't given where this economy is going. The spigot is going to run dry and I don't think we are ever going back to "normal". For the first time ever, I have given thought to selling some of this stuff and I've never sold a thing in 20 years.

If all rookies bust and there's nothing to chase then there's no temptation to open thus why so much of modern baseball is steal cheap except a few good years.

I'm going to do some research this weekend. I got a steal on a 2021 Topps Series 1 hobby box at $150 the other day. The guy at the shop was literally increasing the price to $175 as I was there. Although all boxes might not grow, it does seem like the downside risk is pretty minimized.

2019 Topps Update is still underpriced. I've picked up a few more boxes to stash.
2020 Topps Stadium Club Chrome - this is slowly still rising but a solid buy for the initial offering of a fun product. (I like blasters more than hobby)
2018 Topps Series 1 is worth a look, too. Still a deep rookie class!

The cheapest BIN on eBay is $135, but after taxes its closer to $150 and I prefer to support the local shop because I enjoy going there.

2014 Topps Update hasn’t doubled ..... but it’s gone up over 1,000 %

Awesome. I’m going to give it a shot. The plan is to buy 3 boxes of each series. Open 2 to build the set and keep 1. I can’t imagine the wife will like it after a couple of years haha.

Off the top of my head: 2014, bowman, 2016 bowman, 2018 HHN (basically any 2018 product that has Acuna/Soto) ALL 2017 FB, basically any prizm from any year (2015 is an exception in FB)

In answer to your bolded, I agree: rare does not mean valuable. Sometimes the most common product (2018 update) can be one of the most expensive.

Literally none of the boxes you mentioned are Topps baseball. But you’re right on that 2015 football, that was the year I went all in on group breaks. Spent way too much on such a bad class.

Well, I collect all three sports!!!

2014, 2016 bowman baseball has gone crazy, 2018 bowman baseball is also steadily creeping up. (yes technically not topps)

Please don't ask for exact numbers, I got all mine at reasonable prices before the run-up.
