Picked up a /499 Carroll refractor auto on eBay. The seller had some poor photos uploaded with what appeared to be a surface scratch and roller marks on the back black border. I reached out via messages and he sent new photos and the card looked clean. Hoping it looks as good in person. Basically snagged the one card I wanted for the cost of a jumbo box. Not mad at that

Color was kris Bryant green /99 and Kyle Tucker purple /250

Autos were base tyler freeman, base yainer diaz and a purple speckle dermis Garcia /299

Autos were Buddy Kennedy, Nolan Jones /250 and Chuckie Robinson /150..meh...

Color was Machado /125, Groshans /25, Blackmon/199, Cal Raleigh /99...again meh..

Last box I hit a case hit memorabilia of Miggy Cabrera, a negative refractor of Nolan Jones and a sweet Adley Radiating Rookies which made up for all of it!

Buyback MVP's 2 base Acuna and another Acuna /350...so $140 if he wins MVP. Not a single Ohtani.

I locked in at $139 when they first went up for presale and I feel i did ok at that price but no way I'd buy in at $175-$200. Not enough color and the auto checklist is too long of odds to hit anyone good.

topps at least still has hobby for 150, the online retailers all raised theirs overnight.
I'm going to see what my LCS has them at they tend to do flex pricing too so its likely 175 for hobby

What's the cause for the spike in prices? Simply a case of new product fever with demand outstripping supply ATM, or is there something else going on?

I don't know, but I think I've officially lost touch with this whole collecting thing. I can't imagine what is possessing people to buy this at a rate that would actually drive prices up.

I miss opening boxes the way I used to, but I can't bring myself to come anywhere near this. I still have my 2017 and 2018 Chrome RC autos of 27-year-old relief pitchers to remind me why, and I didn't pay nearly this much for those boxes.

Topps has announced its promo plans for the National.

I was going to say the amount of color and 'decent to good' RC autos I've see coming out of peoples breaks has got me excited to open my pre-order... which I'm assuming is also persuading people to buy and driving price up.

All for me, to more likely than not, pull some pitcher autos and get color of non-relevant players

I also think the first wave of boxes (all types of boxes) seem to have better hits/cards then the later waves. Out of 3 blasters, I got a Tyler Freeman auto, a blue Josh Smith, sepia Ohtani, base Acuna along with the key rookies.

I feel like if you buy on restocks then its more base than autos/hits.

yeah. i hate flex pricing on boxes now, i'm only recently back to buying boxes and its aggravating that the price just goes up unless its a dud product.

I heard that 2022 Chrome prices were something ridiculous (up to $900 for a jumbo???) but then crashed after people found out Topps screwed the pooch and all the top rookie SPs weren't in the set.
