Saw "Weapons" today. Great atmosphere throughout and a few geniune scares. This is from the filmmaker behind 2022's "Barbarian" and it likewise is highly unpredictable, which is some of the highest praise that can be afforded movies these days. Great cast led by Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, and Amy Madigan, but everyone is good, especially the kid, which was crucial for this one.

9.3/10

Along with "Final Destination", "Bring Her Back", "Sinners", "28 Years Later", and "The Monkey", it's definitely been a solid year for wide-release horror with several more yet to come:

Del Toro's Frankenstein
Black Phone 2
Hell House LLC
The Final Conjuring

I just saw a preview of 'The Roses', really?
A 'War Of The Roses' remake?.....
I'm sure Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Coleman are just as good as Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.
Also, who needs Danny DeVito when you have Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa and Zoe Chao also in it.....
Good lord.

I mean, the actual War of The Roses happened in England, so the title kinda belongs to them in the first place.

Colman is devastating in it. Cumberbatch has never been better! I didn't know formulaic comedy could sear one's soul, but this one somehow does it.

That cast was built for radio.

Just got home from Nobody 2. While not as good as the first, it was still a lot of fun. There was one moment where my wife literally looked away and covered her mouth. It's a 6.5 out of 10. The first was about an 8 out of 10. Still very enjoyable but the obvious step back that you would expect.

Late to the party but I just watched Superman. Two hours that went by in a blink. Loved it.

With Naked Gun, it could've been any zany thing, but one more crazy scene would've filled out the run-time a bit (although there were gags all through the credits as with the originals). That said, what was in there was funny, very much Lonely Island meets Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker.

We know for sure the FF will reappear. Hopefully, Frank Drebin Jr. will, too.

Fantastic Four 8.7
Naked Gun 8.8
Ive never scene either movie, but If you think they were too short I will watch he worst rated movies by you lol. No movie should be over 2 hours EVER.

But, I dont know if Ive ever ventured into this thread before, I like the ratings people are giving so ty.

Saw "Nobody 2" and "Together" as a double feature at the drive-in last night.

The Bob Odenkirk sequel wasn't as good as the original, but was still entertaining enough. Probably needed another 10-15 minutes to pack the punch of part one.

"Together" is a body horror movie starring real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie. I was a little concerned the scares would be a little too dark to see on a drive-in screen, but to the filmmakers' credit, most of the gross-outs were well lit. An unusual film in that it's definitely a metaphorical depiction of co-dependency that gets to its point by piling on a solid amount of visceral gore. Excellent effects and sound design in this one.

NOBODY 2 6.9/10
TOGETHER 8.1/10

I never thought I'd say this sentence but...'Russell Crowe plays Hermann Goring in 'Nuremberg'. It comes out November 7th.
Should have waited until November 20th then it would be 80 years to the date of the Nuremberg trials start.

Just got home from watching the new Toxic Avenger.

If you like Troma films you'll probably like this film.

If you do not like Troma films or are unfamiliar with them, you will probably hate this film.

There is a mid credit and a post credit scene.

Saw Weapons, loved that movie, probably my favorite of the year so far. I can’t remember the last time an ending left me so satisfied.

I finally watched Sinners on HBOMax. I really loved it. It was a slow build but definitely builds to something great. I also really liked how music was used in the movie.

Apparently there are no plans for a sequel, but I think it would be cool if the story continued from the after credits scene.

I also watched Final Destination Bloodlines and though that was probably the best entry in the series.

Have not seen Sinners, will probably watch it tonight.

Final Destination Bloodlines was great though. One death in particular is so comically complex, it was so over the top in its Rube Goldberg execution, I was laughing, felt so bad for the person, but not really, lol

Had a few issues with this...

SPOILER ALERTS!!!

- never heard the kidnapping call...weird

- Paul and Kyle were literally "like family"...supposedly...

Yet

David dismissed paying the ransom, even after Paul pleaded saying it was too much money...David's wife said it was too much money...David's business associate, said it would be a bad look and his career would be over if he didnt pay...even his son, and Kyle's best friend, was more concerned about the blowback on HIM if they didn't pay...

Not 1 person was concerned about the kid or whether he dies or not lol

And then the very next scene...David acts like the savior, tells him he's paying and laughs and gives Paul a hug...

Really weird storytelling imo lol

Was still decent watch

Just watched one of those upcoming trailer videos on YouTube and I see that Sisu is getting a sequel in November. That movie was great on it's own so is it really necessary?

It's cool that Stephen Lang is in this one and I'll definitely watch it but from watching the trailer,it's going overboard on the over-the-top action scenes even more than the original.

2 weeks away from One Battle After Another. This has a chance to be the first film of 2025 that I like.

I'm looking forward to that one, too. I'm a big PT Anderson fan, as is Steven Spielberg, who said he's already seen it three times. Here's what Spielberg said to Anderson at a panel discussion after a screening of the film:

"What an insane movie, oh my God. There is more action in the first hour of this than every other film you've ever directed put together. Everything, it is really incredible. This is such a concoction of things that are so bizarre and at the same time so relevant, that I think have become increasingly more relevant than perhaps even when you finished the screenplay and assembled your cast and crew and began production. I have not seen a movie that is so tonally a relative to Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. This brings a kind of absurdist comedy, taken very seriously, because it's so much a reflection of what's happening today, every day, throughout this country. But it takes it to a point where you want to laugh, because if you don't laugh, you're going to start screaming, ‘This is too real'."

I also am looking forward to this project one. I actually bought up a few Teyana Taylor autos of COMC for cheap the other day.

Apparently she might get nominated for an Oscar in this breakout role. We will see. One of my favorite movie experiences was watching Magnolia in the theater. Made me a lifelong Aimee Mann and PT Anderson fan.

Anderson has 11 Oscar nods but no wins, incredibly.
Maybe this one sets that right.

I hold him in very high esteem.
Two of my all-time favorite movies, "Inherent Vice" and "Licorice Pizza" wouldn't even make most peoples' list of his top 5 movies.

I definitely became an Aimee Mann fan because of that movie. The second I heard "Save Me" I was hooked. Of course, I realized shortly after she was the singer from Til' Tuesday too.

Really happy to hear that Wake Up Dead Man is getting a limited theatrical run. Saw Glass Onion in theaters before it hit Netflix and with a mystery movie like that, seeing it in theaters with limited distractions is the best way to watch.
