Buy what?! The flow of top tier 2019’s has come to a screeching halt. Granted, I’m a non auto numbered parallel guy but I’ve noticed a drastic change in availability.

Ironically this behavior can be an early sign of a market crash when you look at equities, commodities, real estate, etc.

Why? When sellers dry up it can create a negatively reinforcing cycle of ever further price erosion.

It has to do with the large overlap between buyers and sellers (ie sellers are also buyers). A seller’s unwillingness to take a loss means they also are unwilling to be a buyer and that takes huge buyer volume out of markets.

As a buyer, you should rejoice and just pick the few things up that come to market. Means we will have less competition

I’m so glad I’m more collector than investor. Collecting is fun and relaxing. Investing takes over my thoughts lol.

So I am a new collector (not investor...have not sold a card yet). Feels like the sky is falling (bought a bunch of PSA10 RC). Good thing its just money! Actually not worried...he is the best 21 y/o on the planet at what he does.

If you are panciking over a 21 year old who is neck and neck for the MVP, maybe card hype chasing isn’t for you

People did the same thing over Acuna... they're both fine and will both be competing for MVPs for the next decade plus.

Acuna needs to actually compete for one first

I would be panicking if I was about to pay $191,000 for a 2016 chrome red tatis auto bgs 9.5 in the goldin auction.

Neck and Neck with who? He’s hitting .275

Machado has more HR/RBI and hitting like .315

If you’re paying $200k+ for a card, you’re not sweating it. He’s betting on the 21 year old, top 3 MVP vote getter, flashy SS...that’s headed to the playoffs. Not the last few days.

Soto pre covid went like 15k if I remember right. So tatis is like
8x from covid
2x cause he is the flavor of the month

16x15k is 240k and since everyone is flush with cash call it 1/4 mill

The funny thing is his cards are up slightly in some cases, just the examples I saw.
You never know if the market is adjusting as maybe he was under priced before.
I am not a seller now, but certainly not a buyer at an increase after such a slump, I would say Hold

Did you come here from a penny stock forum?

This is where I'm at right now. He's only 21, no time to panic at all. He's a great player in a slump. I am holding all of my Tatis cards.

Is there any truth to the rumor that he is playing with an injury? Didn't he hurt himself on a slide a few weeks back? Would explain a lot about the decreased pop.

Haha, I’ve been in this hobby for a few years.

I know this is the tatis pump thread, but this guy is going to have a fantastic career like manny machado’s, yet his chrome autos sell for 5-6 times as much. It would be wonderful for tatis to have machados career numbers in 8 years, just baffled that you guys are all millionaires and willing to pay what you do for tatis stuff.

Aren’t you all the same guys who are going to be selling his stuff at a third of what you bought it for because his “slump” will linger until you realize he will be a career .280 hitter with 25 hrs/year, potential hall of fame stats, but not worthy of trout prices long term?

I love tatis but I would be shorting his stuff and all the other hotties like lourob right now if I was a penny stock message board bully.

If you are a true lifelong tatis fan, wouldn’t it make sense to sell a lot of his stuff at peak prices right now and buy them back in the future at a fraction of the cost?

Or does everyone here really think cards are going to increase in value forever?

I think the problem you run into is there's always that guy that everyone either missed out on or wished they bought much, much more of. That fuels the fire of potential. People would say "This is it. It can't go any higher" in the Acuna thread last year and the Sappire just kept going and going and going...

It's that FOMO. It's a strong drug.

For the most part, I agree with the sentiment of your post. I wouldn't spend a dime on base #410s or #203s even in PSA 10. But I think there's a lot of stuff -- especially with Tatis -- that has flown under the radar and is actually still dirt cheap. I can get behind that stuff. But you won't find me dropping $3k on a trendy auto.

Arthur

ETA: Congrats on 6k!

Yep.

Personally, I sold all of my 410s and 203s except one. I kept my initial investment so I am now playing with house money, and started picking up a few numbered and colors with the profits.

Could be the wrong move, idk. Time will tell.

That Fomo is such an interesting concept, people end up paying way more to compensate what they feel like was a missed opportunity- that’s where prospectors prey on the collextorz. Don’t give those prospectors the satisfaction of eating you alive, have some patience and discipline.

Oh, I forgot, we are talking about sportz cardz genusis here.
