Welp... The equivalent Acuna just sold yesterday for $7,500. Even if Vlad shows up this year hitting like a young Miguel Cabrera/Pujols, this card likely won't reach quite the Acuna level. However, if he shows up hitting like a young Cabrera/Pujols, this card will still fetch a pretty penny.

I'd say it all comes down to whether you think he'll take a big step this year.

I would hold. I've said it before...with the amount of factors this card has working AGAINST it to gem (centering, the ripple on the back, the black refractor line, etc.), this will be the one to explode if any card does (seems like all of Vlad's cards are exploding at the moment).

I sold my two Acuna Gem Sapphires last summer and doubled my money. Seeing what they're selling for has me wincing, but that money landed me some Vlads that have made up for it. Your Vlad will be THE card if he comes out the gate hitting like a beast.

I don't want to be upset, because I still really love the card. But. It could certainly be sweeter.

That almost looks impossible! A fairly bold auto everywhere else. Maybe that's the "mystery" part...the vanishing V...

It is indeed bold in every other part except the missing portion of the V. When you look closely you can see a faint outline.

Its his pen stroke.

Looks like seller either moved this one or decided to hold onto it. Replaced it with a Sapphire BGS 9.5, meaning again zero Mystery Auto's up. Was strongly debating picking it up

This is a tough call for me. Love the card and grade but Vlad is not in the same RC situation as Acuna. I think the Sapphire will definitely move up if he does well but I think there are other cards that Acuna did not have that will move up better % wise, namely Mystery Auto & TC 201 Parallels.

Grades popped from the 4 vlad sapphires I sent in November from the 6 I bought. Got 10s on all 4. Pretty stoked.

Uh???? You think the Sapphire will move up if he does well? It’s up 100%ish from release and its winter lol. I own some pretty decent TC 201 color and wish I would have bought a few more Sapphires instead. TC is severely lagging behind Sapphire and the flagship paper craze. Things can change, but there’s definitely a reason the TC 201 is so affordable still.

Everything will be dependent on his performance. And how have those TC colors done for you? I'll pick them up at whatever you paid for them if you like

No problem standing by what I wrote, strongly feel a Blue Refractor /150 will outpace a Sapphire going forward. Sapphire is Sapphire, yes. Go ahead and take a look at how many TC Colors are even up for sale. I see 1 Green & 1 Orange, that's it. I posted a buy for his TC Refractors a little while ago and had no hits at all. People are just not selling these, great long term holds and huge inefficiencies right now.

People aren’t selling because they haven’t moved in price. He has to perform for the 201 refractor to move. The sapphire, S1 mystery auto, and NNOs didn’t need any performance to double ++ in price. When the 201s move up so will everything else... Just stating the obvious. I know you’re sitting on a stack of 201s and I wish you the best of luck with them. Another reason you don’t see as many 201s on EBay is because nobody is busting TC...

All great points. Have them because they are clearly his best buys and have a chance to be his best cards. Already in on his Mystery Auto and don't miss often on these things. Pretty sure it'll end up the right call. If his raw NNOs are selling at $35-40 and they made 100k of them then if/when he performs well, his Base Chromes at 1/7th the cost and 60% the print run will most likely move up. If he goes MVP level, those Base (Silver) Refractors & Colors will be absolute monsters.

Put another way, what would a 2018 Topps Chrome #201 Acuna Bat Down Blue Refractor /150 be worth right now if they made one?

It would definitely take away some value on the Sapphire, but with this being hypothetical I’ll assume the Sapphire would be at least double the value of a blue bat down TC refractor...
