I don’t know what the actual percentage is but it feels like we score 50% of our runs in the 1st inning. Rest of the game we struggle a lot of the time scoring.

I would guess that it’s a big jumó from AAA to MLB and they want to see him perform for a longer stretch. He basically hadn’t pitched for two years, so having him strong together a good amount of starts before calling him up seems prudent. If the Braves lose another starter for any reason it would likely speed up that plan.

It's not a big jump though. And he's pitched in the majors before. Yes, he missed a long amount of time. He was back last year. He was coming into camp expecting to compete for the 5th spot, before the tight hamstring set him back. He's basically been going through his spring training, ramping up the number of pitches each start. If he's on an innings limit for the year, there's no reason to have him burn those up in AAA if there's a need in the majors.

He came back from the Achilles injury last year. He's been throwing all off season. Sorry, I don't see any reason for him to not come up. And he's pitched better than Dodd the last few starts. Dodd was rocked in 2 of his 3 starts since he was sent down and only completed 5 innings in one of them. Dodd will most likely get the call Thursday, but after that, I'd say it's fair game.

I can easily see a world where Soroka is starting a MLB game next week

I would argue that the jump is more mental than ability. Of course Soroka can pitch in the majors. There's no question about that, but because of the jump in skill level it would require Soroka to push himself harder, something the Braves may not be entirely comfortable with him doing yet. If I'm not mistaken this was an issue for him earlier in his career, where he was trying too hard to be perfect.

That said, when it comes to the physical, once you're in the game all bets are off, if the Braves haven't seen enough yet to feel confident he can bust-ass to first on a ground ball then he shouldn't come up until they do.

I'm just curious where this thought process of the reason he hasn't been called up yet is anything is anything but him building pitch count is coming from?

He was in his third year as a major league starter when the injury happened. He was back from that injury last year. His slowed start this year was not because of concern over the Achilles.

Him not being called up yet had nothing to do them not being able to bust it to cover first. Again, the team had the expectation that he would be competing for the 5th spot during camp. That doesn't happen if the team has concerns over the things you suggested.

Snit just said today that the biggest thing he needed to see was getting the pitch count around 100. AA was at the game last night to watch Soroka and only had positive reports coming back. Had the hamstring tightness not stolen his spring training, there's a good chance he would have been on the opening day roster

I know Elder’s stuff doesn’t wow you, but I just don’t understand him not starting the season up with the team. I would argue that he’s been the most consistent.

Yes definitely needed to win that game to avoid the sweep. Now we have a 4 game set with the Phillies.

What a beautiful textbook display of old school baseball in the 9th.

Well he had a 6 ERA in 3 spring training starts so it seemed reasonable at the time.

In news that should surprise no one, the Braves are recalling Dodd for tonight's game.

Crazy to think that you can actually win important games by thinking small every once in a while. Not every game needs to end with a guy hitting a 450ft blast.

Oh boy. How many runs will he give up in the 1st inning? He's been terrible early.

If Dodd can give us 5 inning, I'll consider it a W.

He hasn't been good since he was sent down. His spot start he gave them 6 innings, 3 runs. So technically it was a quality start.

Let's see how it does with some pressure on him. There's a rotation spot on the line now and if he struggles, Soroka is ready to go for the next time this spot comes up.

Hey, good question! No, Bryce and my son are close childhood friends. We started chasing his stuff hard on day 1 and picked up most of these for very little. Most of the PSA stuff we sent in ourselves. We have about 3K cards including 24 one-of-one's. It's been the most fun I've had in my very long collecting career. For what it's worth Bryce is a really great dude and gets kick out of our ridiculous collection. He's given us some game-used stuff for the collection too which is cool. We couldn't have imagined the run he's on right now.

Cool collection and story. It would be cool if people could just collect who and what they like without there having to be a reason.

No runs in the first is a good start!

I guess were just gonna keep sending Minter out all season to blow games for us most of the time.

Not a great start, but not a terrible start. Thought maybe he'd be sent back out for the sixth.

Honestly, I don't think tonight cleared up anything for that 5th spot
