I did not "piss on the card" I think you know that though. I piss on the contribution to the set as I imagine it. I know what Don is going to say to that last sentence, so don't bother. I think Thiele's pieces are great. I just keep using the phrase in and of themselves. I don't like how they mesh with the set.

I was always a Frank Thomas fan, and then he came to the A's and almost won another MVP in 2006. He actually should have won, but I am completely biassed. I have been hooked ever since.

How do think Topps will "tweak" this program and roll it out for Football, Basketball, etc - or like every other promo, one and done?

Wait for the print on that one. Also, is part of the idea that it looks like Old Comiskey was burnt down during Disco Demolition Night?
I think it’ll be fine as a card the way you guys all pick up cards and check them out here. It plays at a distance due to the color bisecting the card in to two halves, and the sizing of the main images versus the rest of the story telling ones. That said, it is certainly a print I’m considering but not a card as I’m not collecting Thiele’s set. But I still think it makes a fantastic buy at $20.

I was referring to the reason being NNOF is why he's in this project, I was referring to just that....HOF BUSTS, he's in the HOF and a 2 time MVP.

He’s said it a few times, Thomas is his PC, so he’ll go after a /20 AP. He did say he liked the card, what he didn’t like was it didn’t fit what he wanted it to look like for his set. I imagine this will be an issue for most folks that want to display a player P2020 set, Fucci, OMA, Don C, etc will f that display up if you you’re OCD and like some continuity to the display. I’ve personally decided I won’t display the Trout set just because it won’t look like it goes together... I will however display a few artist sets as most artists have a similar vibe to all their cards... except OMA, that display will look like a reject from the 80’s $1 bin.

Topps doesn’t have rights to those sports

Topps does NOT have the rights to the nfl, nba, and nhl. So if they do a sequel
Series, it’ll be baseball. Either classic cards or 2021 flagship design/players.

Agreed that he is a great player and his HOF place is deserved. I am talking about the card being iconic. The image is poor and 1990 Topps sucked. The card is iconic because it is a great player and the NNOF factor. The Gooden and Mattingly are other examples of iconic cards. Those players overall career were not what Frank Thomas career was. For you to think I referred to Frank Thomas as a bust is so far from reality that I needed to make sure I corrected it.

I see this as a card being in the project more than a player being in the project. I realize the player makes the card, but I think most understand my point. There were greater players than Gooden and Mattingly that could have been included but those cards were iconic. Those were huge when they came out. I remember them well. From my recollection, 1983 was when Rookie Cards started to make the largest growth. 1984 and 1985 they were all the chase. I am looking at this set from a collectors point more than an artist point. That is why I like Airplane Don's posts so much. He sees all the things I miss from looking at it from a different light.

What is the difference from a Topps Gold 93' Jeter and a Topps 93' Jeter? Or the difference from a PSA 10 75' Brett and a PSA 6 75' Brett

Doesn't Topps have the rights to when they did do Basketball and Football?

Why couldn't 82 Taylor and Lott be part of an art set? Or, can they not use logos any longer?

the 1993 jeter gold has gold foil on the card, made that way at production. not added after the card was printed

Totally agree to your point on the NNOF and the card itself. Iconic card in that it is recognizable for those very reasons, the NNOF, the colors, the blowup of the card market in the 90's, etc.

I have wondered from the start how many artists knew about the NNOF, and how many knew about it while working on their piece. That is what is unique about the project, they are artists and I would guess many have no idea about baseball, these players, and especially baseball cards. But they do put their unique twist on the cards, and I like that. I might not like all the cards or artists (or even some of the players) but I buy what I like pass on what I don't.

I bought 7 out of 10 this week, which is pretty solid.

Will be announcing the 'Silas Barnaby Card of the Week' later this afternoon!

Think 92' Topps was the first Gold card? Believe the first parallel product? Same card printed just embossed with gold.

Very cool.

I have the 1955 and the 1975 editions. I love them.

Hoping to grab the two I'm missing down the road
