On the other hand, Judge is obviously a bigger star and draw than the "Big Dumper", so he'd be more valuable from a marketing and sales perspective.
And I've been told I'm grasping at straws at times in this thread.

Contract price is a pretty big consideration in how a player is valued by their team. Judge's high salary comes with expectations of high production on the field. Otherwise, contract price in general wouldn't be tied to performance.

Judge's salary this season represents 13.3% of is team's total salary. Raleigh's salary represents 1.6% of his team's total payroll -- a relatively small pittance.

Raleigh's tiny salary gives his employer substantial flexibility to improve the team in other ways. Judge's high salary restricts his employer's ability to improve the team in other ways -- not without incurring substantial penalties from the CBT.

But as I said, Judge's marketing value is much higher than Raleigh's, so the financial value that each offer their respective team might be even.

Your player of the month for September is Aaron Judge. It's the third time he's won player of the month this season. Cal won it just one month.

I highly doubt any writer in the history of voting for MVP, ROY, or Cy Young has ever taken into account the salary of the player.

Its like they try to surround him with no names. Game 161 A Martinez (not the actor) batted in front of him and J Rodriguez (no not that one) batted behind him.

He also hasn't been injured in like 6 years.

Never hear a peep about him unhappy, wants to be traded, etc

I mean it probably means nothing but he needs to be 3rd in the MVP vote lol

It's crazy and to think he wanted a no trade clause in his contract. He genuinely loves Cleveland and his reaction to Sunday's game really showed how he feels. You're right though he will only get to 3rd in the MVP vote.

American League MVP Odds Leaders

Rank Name Team Position AL MVP Odds

1 Aaron Judge Yankees RF -330
2 Cal Raleigh Mariners C +250

It's not close.

I don't even know why people care about 62 or 63 HR

73 is the record for MLB

Do people really care if there's a new AL HR record vs someone having a monster all around offensive season?

If Judge isn't the MVP, I think it's time to have a serious conversation about removing writer's ability to vote for the award.

Is the voting already done? If raleigh does well in the playoffs, it may sway some voters even though it shouldnt.

Voting ends before the playoffs begin.

That Judge +180 bet from last week looks really good now.

I will say, the AL HR record is a lot more legit than the NL record. The NL record book is a clown show.

Who's going to turn the lights out? All the Judge detractors have seemed to disappear.

Blame the MLB and sports media. They seem to invent new records daily.

There are league records. And team records. And positional records. And lefty, righty, switch hitter records. There's deadball era records. There's post-deadball era records. New stats come out every year, creating new records. I know it's a lot, but don't worry, you'll be ok.

ESPN used to be the best at inventing the "first time ever" stats.

You can't have an MVP hit below .250, period end of sentence.

First time for everything. If someone told me a Gold Glove catcher hit 60 HRs, I'd assume he won MVP...

Just a different perspective. Which is ok to have. Just like all the voters have different perspectives. That's the great thing about baseball debates. If they want MVP to go to the Adjusted wOBP+ leader, then they should just make that a rule...

If not for Judge staying healthy and finishing the season strong, there would have been. There is a first time for everything. Raleigh's batting average was at least league average. He should still get a good share of the 1st-place votes.
