Been doing some thrifting lately, but my biggest buys lately were a store going out of business I picked up about 400 Hundred major brand new with tags Bathing Suits, Bikinis, Boardshorts, Sandals and more for around $1.50 each. A lot of the items sell in the $12-20 range with a few in the $9 range, so a pretty good pickup.

Any of you thrifters sell something for a friend or family member?

How do you cover yourself tax wise? Let's say they are going to give me 30% of the sale after ebay fees, PayPal fees, and shipping... How do you I justify that although I am recieving all the funds in my paypal, not all of it is going to me.

Would the other 70% be an expense?

the commission is a fee earned. Keep a separate worksheet that spells out all the revenue/fees with the transaction but you only report the fee as income.

I like that stuff if you can list it fast. List it and make your $8-12 every time it sells.

Small update on my auction purchases from 1/9. One of the lots I bought were some arrowheads and ancient coins. There wasn't much interest in the lot along with a lot of other things so I was able to get it for $30. I knew the couple sasanian coins would fetch me that back so I thought it was a good buy. I started to list the arrowheads last night and quickly got a message from an ebay user. They stated that knew certain ones were fake but also believed that others were real, based on the photos. It was pretty obvious the big black super shiny ones weren't authentic, but I had 8 others that were small, finely crafted and you could tell were probably dug up, these were also individually bagged in the collection I purchased. Anyway I ended up selling 6 of the arrowheads to this person for $400, I have another one on ebay auction right now to see what it goes for, I have 14 watchers and 7 bids in 12 hours. I also have one more than I will wait to sell until this auction is over.

Not bad for a $30 purchase!

My only 2 sales yesterday both weighed 15oz. So $3.60 to ship vs the $5.35 had they of sold on Saturday (would have shipped in a Priority Bubble Mailer).

Savings of $3.50

I think selling cards it's horrible with that new $2.60 base for low weight but for clothing it's awesome. I haven't been looking at long sleeve tees since they push to flat rate bubble, now it's worth doing because it's cheaper to ship.

Yeah clothing sales it doesn't make a ton of difference, I'm sure it all evens out, but it is nice to extend that first class the extra 3 ounces. It is amazing how many clothing items weigh between 13-16oz.

I need to vent a little ... sold a brand new router .. older model, but never used (picked up while thrifting). Nearly 2 weeks later the buyer opens a return saying that it doesn't work with his cable company. I accept the return, and agree to issue a refund once it is received ... The problem is - ebay puts a freeze on my paypal account for the amount of the sale. What angers me is that the buyer should have done his/her homework before buying the item, and certainly should have figured out it didn't work with his cable company sooner than 2 weeks. Now he has 10 days to return it (he has not yet and it has been 4 days), an I'm forced to deal with this hold of funds. Such crap.

Don't know about him, but I look for kids, obscure horror and sci-fi and will usually buy any I find that are still sealed( I have been noticing a trend that these are increasingly hard to find and prices on Ebay are slowly moving up). I usually will not pay more than 50 cents for any I buy

Thanxs for the heads up. I will have to keep an eye as I always see VHS new at estate and garage sales I go to.

So I don't offer returns on my items. I get a return request saying that the hat they bought was too big. I happened to actually have a smaller size (from my hat buy) which almost never happens. So I decline the return but message them that I can do an exchange if they can pay the exact shipping back to them.

Of course I get a negative.

Then I send a message saying that I noticed the negative but I'm still willing to do the exchange.

Then I get a paypal claim for not as described.

eBay removed it but it drives me nuts.

I'm not much of a eBay ranter but why is it when I make a legitimate mistake (fortunately is rare) customers will work with you and are very forgiving. But then when I did nothing wrong and 100% in the right, get hostility and negative feedback?

I used to manage a call center, it just never ceases to amaze me how hard it is for people to take their lumps when they've made a mistake. Instead it has to be somehow the other persons fault.

Is this how you would price this? I don't have anything to really compare it to on past sales. Or would you guys lower it from $99.99/BO

I'm not an expert by any means, but I wouldn't lower the price. I would consider raising it possibly.
