I should have read this thread before I submitted. I sent in a few cards for non-guaranteed service back in late August. I got an email that they were received in September, but I should probably prepare to wait another 8+ months . . .

Stupid question, but if you aren't a Beckett Club Member, there isn't any way to see the status of your order online, right? My account doesn't show that I have any current or past BGS orders - I'm just wondering if that's normal, or something that I should be concerned with.

They should just slab every card with an eyeball glance and give it a higher grade than typically deserved and churn out more Prestine Gem Mint 10's, which is exactly what submitters want

Mine finally popped today on day 364...had me wait that long and then didn't even give me a chance to have an anniversary pity party tomorrow as planned. 600 card order so it was a long wait and worse results than I hoped for although I admittedly took a chance on a few of them.

Since you won't have them back tomorrow, I think a pity party is still justified.

Hi, all. Brand new board member and poster. I'm an average card collector. I'm familiar with the three major graders and I know their strengths (PSA's registry, BGS with modern and SGC on pre-WWII). I also have several cards graded through each.

I'm curious about something specifically, however. How many of you are turning to SGC for MODERN cards, considering the wait times at Beckett, and to a lesser degree at PSA?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

For me the answer is zero. The fact of the matter is bgs and psa still command a higher sell price for modern, so I will always go that route no matter how long the wait. I think in some instances sgc does a better job and is more consistent, but it is what it is.

Its just my opinion, but it just looks "unnatural" when I see a modern card in an sgc holder and I steer clear like the plague. I can only assume the majority agree, hence the limited number of modern cards bought and sold on the bay in sgc slabs.

100% agree with this. BGS has lost me due to my 11 month outstanding submission + 12 months for an earlier one so I'm PSA even if they are slower than they used to be. I've found it's worth the extra $ to send Fedex to PSA than regular mail. Regular mail took three weeks to enter the system, Fedex one week. All that said would never grade a modern card SGC for reasons stated above.

I totally get the previous two posters' answers and don't have anything to refute it. If you are looking for resale value, PSA is the only choice that makes sense. I have my personal collection in SGC. I like their holders, they are cheaper and faster while still keeping quality up. They don't have much a following outside of vintage cards. Recent chrome cards are pretty rare in SGC holders. Most of the recent stuff being sent to SGC are probably "old style" cards like heritage and archives sets. I am hoping the new SGC rebranding will bring them forward with modern collectors.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. And Scottish Punk, that's how I've done it. I have a handful of cards that are worth between $100-$1,000. They are all BGS. But, the lower-value cards that I still really like are SGC. Like you said about older-looking cards. I have several 2018 Topps Heritage SPs, minis, etc. None of them book for more than $50. But, they look great in SGC holders.

I was just curious if anyone thought SGC might be getting some modern business from people a little jaded by waits with the other two. I wish they would, because I like their service, prices and aesthetics. But, it doesn't look like it.

(For the record, I did not think I would like SCG's new black flips. But, now that I have them in hand, they look really sharp).

Still waiting on one submitted 12/15/17, so not from my vantage point.

Damn... I have cards in my PC that are of very little monetary value but part of my PC. They probably sell in the $1-$20 range. I was thinking of sending them via the non guaranteed $10 a card service but not if BGS is gonna hold them hostage for a year. I may have to either do my 1st BGS submission at their $20/20 day service level or submit via jewcer at a pricier but faster service.

Yeah, at this point, I'm not sure anyone is willing to tolerate having their cards at BGS for a whole year at the non-guaranteed service level.

Even if BGS charged as little as $5 per card for a guaranteed 1 year turn around time, I doubt people would be lining up to submit cards.

I know what you are saying, but that phrase should never be a possibility.

It's even worse that phrase isn't a possibility because they won't guarantee it in 1 year.

Yes, my 2017 Mega Box Refractor of Ohtani would've been nice to have in March 2018 when it was scheduled to be back. By the time I got to the point of no return to ask for my cards back it was too late, Ohtani was already injured. So I just waited, and waited, and waited. Needless to say I only use BGS if I buy a 9.5 on discount that's got a bad case to send in to recase. All new subs go to PSA.

Sent in 205 cards to BGS just after Thanksgiving 2017. Received on December 2 2017. Received November 6 2018. Funny thing is my account said it was recieved 11/27 at one point and then 11/20 after a few months. Paid for ground return shipping that they upgraded to 3 day.

I submitted a 2014 Bowman Sterling Dual RPA of Khalil Mack and Derek Carr back in August of 2017. It took them a year to grade the thing. By the time I received it back, Derek Carr sucked and Khalil Mack was traded to another team. Card is virtually worthless now.

I have cards that I bought on ebay as RCR 9.5 and I'm pretty sure I'm going to take them out and send to PSA, that's how ridiculous it is
