He has an 8 year track record that says he'll be fine. He's been a slow starter in the past and he missed almost all of spring training. As long as he's healthy he'll probably be 40+ HR and 120 RBI by the end of the season

Oh, I’m familiar with his past. I had him on my fantasy team since 2019. He’s a roto stud with his end-of-year stats, but a H2H team killer with his cold streaks. I had to let him go as one of my keepers this year. I’m definitely rooting for him though.

Cora said he's just having time catching up with fastball which makes sense with the limited spring training he had. If he's still striking out at this rate 2 weeks from now I'll start to be concerned. But the only way I think that happens is if we find out his shoulder is still hurt. Injuries are the only thing that's kept him from hitting in the past. But he had a really good at bat on the bases loaded walk yesterday so he seems to be seeing the ball well just a tick slow trying to catch up to 95+ right now.

It's only 4 games. 4 games is a tiny sample size over the course of the season.

That said, he brought the criticism onto himself with his comments about playing 3rd.

Has he been complaining about the criticism? I haven't seen Devers make any comments since the season started.

I saw a breakdown showing his swing and the way he's holding the bat this year vs previous years. I think his shoulder is still hurt and he's compensating by changing where and how he's gripping the bat. That's just my theory but I won't be surprised if he's headed to the IL soon.

Hopefully it's not his power shoulder.

He threw a temper tantrum in spring training and it has carried over to a poor performance to start the season. He's 4 weeks behind everyone else and it shows.

Maybe they should let him play 3rd for a game.

If all he had to do was put a ball in play to get a base hit...

.... he'd be hitting only .211

Mark deRosa broke down his swing from last year versus this year on MLB network this morning. In the side by side comparison, he has gained a noticeable amount of weight this year. He just looks late on a lot of pitches.

His post game interview felt good

“I felt good today, I felt good in all the at-bats,” he said through translator Carlos Villoria-Benetiz. “Obviously I haven’t been able to hit the ball forward. But I feel good. And I feel like my at-bats are getting better and better.

Another great quote from today

“I don’t know how far or close my hits are,” Devers said.

Apparently he can’t tell there are no hits?!?

Those holding will rather hold than take the huge loss.

I don't have any Devers cards.

Statistically speaking, this start is enough to move the needle in the wrong direction. The 0 for 19 isn't that big of a deal, although that puts him ~5 hits behind expected pace. The 15 strikeouts is a very big deal since K% is one of the stats that stabalizes pretty quickly. To have 15 in 23 PA is several deviations (maybe 3?) from his expectation of 5.

I am going to drop Devers from my buy list completey. He was a one of my top targets coming into the year. That's how severe I think this is. How much I lower his price still remains to be seen. Despite him being a top target I didn't get that much, so I don't have that much exposure.

Let him make a few errors. Maybe it'll correct his offense.
