He’s just salty they signed Bregman and he’s proved to be a really good signing.
It irritates me when guys like Devers seems to be all about himself and entitled. Triston Casas, ehonis out for the year, would play anywhere on the field if he could. Devers is an out of shape brat. Maybe he should focus on his training and getting in the cage more and stop telling his bosses what he will and won’t do.

I'm not a big Devers fan but he's not totally wrong. They signed him to be a 3B period not to be a utility player. They knew his defensive issues when they gave him that money.

Look at it from a personal real life perspective. You go to school learn to be a master electrician your company hires you for that position. 6 months or a year later they are like Tommy in Janitorial quit we need you to clean toilets and take out the trash. Not one person gonna say " Whatever the team needs I'm ready to step up " you gonna be " Fk that I'm an electrian not a janitor ".

It's not Devers job to worry about the moves the GM makes.

He's also guaranteed $300M+.

He should pitch if they ask him to pitch.

He went from one of my favorite Red Sox to my least favorite over the span of 6 months. Glad I sold my rookie auto in the off-season.

I'll gladly take him on the Yankees if they want to dump him.

Do you think Kevin Spacey is a good actor despite his being scum? I already know your response. People like you can't separate the professional side from the personal side.

Pete Rose was considered one of the greatest teammates of all time. Devers is 180 degrees removed. What they do in their personal lives has zero bearing on this.

Your boss would say “then go be an electrician somewhere else”. That’s the real world.
You also wouldn’t have an agent, contract and union defending you and putting sound bites out.
Your boss would also hire both an actual electrician who can fill a few roles and who is willing to do what the company needs. There are always people looking for work and will do whatever it takes to get a job.
Devers has turned into a prima donna over this. Nothing wrong with talking with the GM, manager etc. Taking it public makes him look like a baby. Doing it while sucking this year makes him look like an idiot. I say keep him, bench him and pay his contract. Hopefully Boston makes the playoffs and he sits. Would be awesome if they made the WS and left him off the roster. I mean hey, it’s about the money right? They don’t play for the love of the game.

Dude needs to stop crying and do whatever the team needs him to do. They aren't asking him to pitch FFS. His diva act must be grinding on the rest of his teammates.

It's not like he's being asked to learn a new sport, nor is he being asked to do something wildly different than what he was doing, nor is he even being asked to do something particularly unusual. A lot of players have moved to first over the years.

I love the verbiage certain media outlets have chosen...

The NYT posts "Rafael Devers unleashes on Red Sox brass"

NY Post claims "Red Sox teammates’ reactions revealed as Rafael Devers wages war against front office" (No teammates reactions were included in this post)

Meanwhile, locally...

NESN says "Alex Cora Offers Insight Into Red Sox’s Plan At First Base"

SB Nation actually did some reporting that Devers was wildly misquoted by the translator. The words were further mangled by clickbait reporting...

Here's what hew actually said...

“So what happened with Casas came to me and I know that I am a player, but I can’t play all the positions either, I can’t adapt like any other player to a different position. If I play first, they know that I won’t play at once [that I won’t play right away].”

“But that is not a very good decision as it came to me, I don’t know why it was [made] now. If they removed me from a position… that I was not going to play my position anymore, it is something like nonsense to ask me to play a(nother) position again.”

“They (need) to do their job, that they look for another player. They go to the market and I think that is going to be the best decision that they can learn to work in their new job. Yes, because they don’t keep their word, because they already made me change positions and they themselves gave me the confidence that it wasn’t going to happen anymore and they didn’t keep their word.”

Is it a good look? No.

Should it have never been discussed outside the clubhouse? Absolutely not.

Does Devers have a point? Yes, he does.

Do I think he plays 1st? Yup.

This is 1000% whats wrong with the current online click-happy media. Poor reporting, no research, with the sole purpose of trying to get people angry at eachother...

1st base is pretty much the same as third with a whole lot less chances. Just have to make sure when the ball is hit to the rest of the infield that you run over to receive the throw. And you hold the runner on for a possible pick off attempt. Should be an easy transition

It's not a good look for Rafael...fully agree with you.

I mean, I saw elsewhere it mentioned his translator didn't do him any favors, however you can't blame the translator for him calling out the organization, and still saying to sign someone to play 1st base. He clearly doesn't want to play there, he's clearly not a team player, he's clearly toxic for that team.

I do this kind of stuff without even being asked.

If Hatteberg can play 1st, he should be able to

Send Devers to the Angels. Rendon is never here, maybe Devers will be happy playing 3B in Anaheim.

Devers for Trout straight up? That way the country can watch Trout play the 50 games or so that he plays every year.

That's a great deal. Send Trout to Boston, better chance of winning for him. Devers to Anaheim, he'll fit in. No pressure and no media nonsense for Devers. He can't be any worse than Anthony Rendon.

I see both sides here. I wouldn't be happy if my organization hired someone new in my position and told me I had to start over from scratch at a new position at the highest level. Especially knowing that any mistake I make in a game and the Boston faithful will turn on me in a heartbeat. Granted, Devers has a huge contract and I understand why people would be upset with him for not wanting to move, but every single one of you would be furious if the same thing happened to you in your job - regardless of pay.

Also this should have stayed in the clubhouse. Red Sox are being lame.
