It's debate not argument. I've stated that I would vote Betts no less than 2nd and have given my debate as to why. I'm sure the sun will rise tomorrow if our opinions differ.

On a serious note, if JD comes in 5th he’ll be lucky. He’s a DH and leads Betts in homeruns, and that’s it. Don’t be silly #GleyberDay
Just seemed funny you used Aaron Judge's hashtag for a Boston player. Don't get your pa ties in a wad about it.

I looked across the AL leaderboards on BR, and there are only three stats Betts is not in the top ten (not counting negative ones like SO, CS, Singles, etc).

dWAR (0.9)
RBI (62)
AB/SO (6.35)

That's a lot of gray ink.

If members are unwilling to research and attempt to debate because they are baffled with logic, statistics and opinions based on facts then they stop debating and begin to reply like Wiseguy917. He is better than this. You lose in a great debate when you move towards critiquing other people's intelligence.

He is, because he checked the latest box score, another late and close, high leverage home run, but it wasn't hit by the second best hitter in the American League, (Betts).

You're being ridiculous.

The argument for a DH over a RF is insane. Martinez sits in the dugout for 95% of the game; every time he gets to the plate, he's taken 45 minutes off, having done absolutely nothing. This is the reason why the position will never win an MVP award and why it;s ridiculous to compare them to any position player with numbers even close.

Martinez is having a bad-ass season; no doubt about it. But there is zero comparison to a player of Trout, Mookie, Lindor or Ramirez's capabilities.

This is not a real Superfractor. It's a proof; IP signed ... the auto absolutely adds value.

I thought it was the real superfractor card. Any IP auto on a proof increases value.

I'm not sure why it's so difficult for people to comprehend the diminished value of a player who only spends 5-8 minutes of every 3 hour game on the diamond.

It's a similar argument for a pitcher winning MVP. IF there are no standout MVP type seasons from position players ... I'm happy to argue whether or not the DH (or SP) deserves the MVP for a season.

But when you have a handful of guys banging it out all year; there's no discussion to be had. Especially in the era of advanced statistics, there's simply no chance for J.D. Nor should there be.

One of the beauties about the game of baseball and why the HOF stands out vs. other sports is because of the difficulty of it. Everyday, for six months; you're in it. Aching backs, tweaked wrists ... 100 degree summer heat; there are barely any days off in a 162 game season. And baseball is LONG compared to almost every other sport.

The DH is none of that. It's a guy who shows up 4-5 times a game to take swings. Hell, he can spend 2 hours a night on the massage table before going to the plate if he wants. This is not to diminish the season Martinez is having, because no matter how little he plays, he makes a big impact ... simply that when tussling between his numbers and a guy like Lindor, or Betts; there is no comparison. Two five-tool athletes who impact the game in so many ways; vs. a masher.

He is correct. It is definitely a proof super. I'll post a scan of the back. I got it in the off-season and fell in love with it lol

Its not the Tour De France that these players who are taking the field are participating in. The game is about having the best hitters doing the toughest skill in all sports as often as a team can have them perform. Did Boston want Betts to be injured, no. The Angels were the same but allowed Trout who had a history to reinsure himself when the season was over.

Even with Betts having such a huge season, does Boston want to find out if it's not due to him having protection in the batting order, something that was lacking last season?
