box o stuff giveaway

Hope everyone had a great (and safe) Thanksgiving!

The box was delivered the other day and I had time to go through it today. What I took is pictured below.



I'm from the SF Bay Area so you'll see some Giants/49ers cards pulled. Additionally, I loved Pudge, Vlad and Japanese players (I'm part Japanese). Lastly, I took some packs to rip because I love ripping packs. Didn't hit anything notable BUT it scratched the itch

I added some stuff (including non-baseball) to the giveaway box. I'll ship it out to the next person once I get their mailing address!

Okay got to go thru the box with the kids this weekend and then finally got to sit down to upload photos and share. The kids were super excited as they never done this before.

Here's what we got:





Being from SoCal, we picked out a bunch of Dodgers stuff and Shaq cards. I either will give these to my students that I work with or the kids will trade these with their friends for Angels cards.



For the kid's PC, they actually collect animal cards from Allen & Ginter, so they were super excited to get the horse cards; They also love shiny refractor cards and thought the 3 player insert was cool. They also were wow'ed by the black and white sparkly refractors. They also picked up their first ever gold refractor. The younger one got the gold and the older one got the black and white. They thought the Griffey was hilarious so they kept that one. The Ironman's were cool to them so they split that one each. For the packs, they've never opened the old 80's wax packs so they were excited by that, the old cards were cool, but the players they weren't too excited by the players they've never heard of. In the opening day pack they pulled the Mariner Moose mascot, so they were pretty happy with that.



For myself, I took the 582 Montgomery set cause that is a cool set and has a cool Jo Adell RC. I just started collecting baseball not too long ago, so this was my first ever Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa RC. Picked up some basketball cards I like; really like the Tim Hardaway as I love 90's inserts.
Picked up the Alex Morgan base because I'm a fan. And then finally I thought the coolest card is that Elvis card. Never seen it before and now it's officially the oldest card I own in my collection.

I hope we didn't take too much. We all enjoyed the box. We filled the box back up as best we can. I noticed there weren't any Angels stuff, so I threw in some interesting Ohtani goodies. We don't collect football cards so I put whatever we had gotten through lots over the years in. No clue if they are good or not, I never bothered with them. We noticed some non-card stuff that was in the box, so we added to that. Put some misc. inserts / rc's we had in. We also put a small stack of random Japanese pokemon cards in, in case anyone else with kids who collect those might like them in the future.

Thanks again all. . . soooo who do I send this to next? No one has requested the box so far.

BTW, glad you kids enjoyed going through it. That's the best part.

It is awesome to see cards I added so long ago still being pulled out! Glad some of these could make it to a collector who could use them.

The 582 set is really awesome, love the design. I am a set collector too so, it was also nice that it was the entire set, so I don't have to chase the rest of the set. I really like the Mosaic from last year and the Zion is actually my first Zion rookie ever. I learn my lesson years ago (Derrick Rose ), so I tend to avoid buying prospect cards for the collection, so this a nice one to add.

Agree the next person who gets the box that really understands football and basketball could usefully take out the stuff that isn't box-worthy and donate it. Even with a very generous filter as to box-worthy, I weeded out over 150 baseball cards that didn't belong and replaced with better stuff - including two of the cards you just took (glad they could find a good home!). But I don't know enough about football or basketball so didn't address those.

Haha yeah, I like that set too. Because I already have a couple other 582 sets, figured I'd add one to the box for the next person(s). Glad it went to someone who genuinely likes it.

Last year's Mosaic design is pretty awesome too. The value pales in comparison to Prizm but the aesthetics might arguably be better. Haha, good thing you didn't go crazy on Zion given his current state (possible shutdown for the rest of the season is what I just heard).

If it needs to be cleaned up again, after p.thompson gets it I could always clean it up again. I only have about 50-60 cards to add to it this time around so not so sure if it is time again for me to do that.

My son and I just finished sorting our cards to make Christmas gifts for friends.

Would love to surprise him by getting a turn with this box, as there could be something cool for his PC.

Feels good to have our collections in order now with all the extras organized...got some cool stuff to add back too.
