I also fully expect that, should Atlanta win game 2, he will miraculously be ready to go for game 1 of the WCS. The heat therapy will work wonders on the flight. |

Not surprised at all that the bats went cold. Pressing too much. Making a bad pitcher look good.
Let's see if the B-squad portion of the bullpen can continue to shut down the B-squad Mets. |

Considering all of the injuries. This team has fought the entire season.
It's going to be a battle in San Diego. |

Snit said he doesn't expect Sale to be available for the WCS.
Nothing adds up. Velocity down his last start. Ends up not pitching for almost two weeks. Now, spasms, but he said he's pitched through worse. Snit says he didn't want to risk making it worse. What it sounds like is they've been hiding an oblique strain. |

Ian hasn't pitched in the majors since August of 2022 but I'd still rather see him or AJSS out there for game 1 over Elder.

But honestly, it should be all three. Give them each one time through the lineup. They can replace Sale, Schwellenbach, and Holmes on the WCS roster. Or replace Elder with Waldrep. Last edited by whitmm; 09-30-2024 at 09:31 PM. |

Roster released. As I expected, Sale, Schwellenbach, and Holmes left off. No Ian. AJSS and Elder made it.
Should go bullpen game, Fried, Morton as the starters. Lopez is available, so I'd expect that Morton will be on a short leash. I'm assuming Iggy and Joe are unavailable for tonight. AJSS starting tonight Last edited by whitmm; 10-01-2024 at 01:31 PM. |

Don't care that he hasn't pitched in the pros since 2022, Ian would have been the better choice.
This is nothing against AJSS, but he had been struggling in the minors to end the season. And Snit's comments about not going with Ian because of the long time of no big league innings, AJ made one MLB start, so it doesn't hold water. The Padres can't hit left handed pitching, and two of the biggest lefties, Sale and Minter are injured. Fried in line for a big game tomorrow, hopefully the bats show up Last edited by whitmm; 10-01-2024 at 10:39 PM. |

I personally would have went with Elder simply because he's had a good number of starts during the season. He for sure could have given you more than 2 innings. I would probably have had Anderson come in after Elder for a couple of innings then let the BP do it's thing. The BP actually did pretty good holding it to 3 runs until the end the main issue was the same it's been most of the season and that's no offense.

![]() Didn’t matter who pitched when they got shut out. I’m noticing a trend and this year there was no five day break to whine about. Oh well hopefully they remember how to hit in October the next two days. |

Thanks for the help, Max. I guess we know which one showed up today. You're not making it very hard for us to miss you as you move to another team this off season.

What you mean is, thanks Max for pitching like junk all season and not showing up in the playoffs to deliberately scare teams away, making the Braves reunion look like a great idea

^^^^what a crummy way for his time in ATL to end. I’m not at all shocked since he pitched great his last time out. Even in the WS he pooped the bed his first time out. Unfortunately he won’t get that second game to redeem himself. Thanks for the memories and enjoy LA.

Why would the Dodgers want Kershaw 2.0? And pay a ridiculous amount for him?

Because they know what they have in him? Because they are the ones who have invested in him for years?
I'm really amazed at the number of people here who think the team has already made them their final offer (two years ago) and are going to tell him to pound sand. You realize the rotation next year is two guys coming off career years, a guy coming back from TJS, a bunch of young guys that haven't done well in their chances, and Schwellenbach? |

The flip side is every FA AA has allowed to hit the market has left except for what, Ozuna when his market never materialized? And what FA pitcher has AA signed for significant years?
The Braves need another pitcher next year, agreed, but its not going to be Max. AA is never going to outbid the market on him unless he settles for a high AAV/low years deal.

Or Swanson? Who hit free agency when FA SS were being paid god awful amounts. Swanson wasn't staying because of his wife. And everyone knew it. The problem here is we don't know what AA offered him. But what we do know that all of his numbers have dropped in Chicago and he's missed the playoffs both years. But he made massive trades for Olson and Murphy, and then locked them up long term. Do you want to talk about Mark Melancon, who turned down the Braves competitive offer to go to a "contender?" Yeah, the Padres missed the playoffs that year. AA has never had to be that aggressive in the FA market because of the amount of home grown talent. Max is going to get a competitive offer. Whether he takes it is a different story.
