nothing was red card. they definitely were doing some other stuff though. seems like more manual got through today on select than any in the past few weeks. prestige mega was small quantity and sold out quick. i got 6 to the checkout screen but couldn’t get through. the thing with the changing quantity limit was interesting. i was thinking it was just based on the inventory level changing as they flowed inventory to the page. they were definitely throttling checkouts which might be the best way to even the field for manual users. when i got less than 5 in the drop down i’d just try again until I got a 5 drop down. that would be interesting if it was intentional though. whatever it was it kept the inventory from all being tricked off on the backend before it went live for manual. prestige was botted and less than 10k units as people realized there is decent margin in flipping them. that and the product offering was weak this week so they wanted something to make money off. dead zone til optic gets here…could be next week but I’d guess it’s not til the week after. Especially since Walmart had Prizm Baseball megas for $39.99. So for 10 bucks more you at least get an auto even if it's a crap one.

These card companies are going to f up by cutting out the flipper man and his profit. Things will eventually sit.

I’d prefer there be a happy medium. It’s nice to have products that command the need to be in line on release day (Prizm,Optic, Chrome, etc) but on the flip side it’s also nice to be at the store just doing normal shopping and have some products to pick from that aren’t gone as soon as they leave the Excell/Holdings boxes. Before the pandemic and everything took off on the flipping side I could buy a Chronicles/Status/Threads/Prestige blaster any day of the week in store with little to no demand for them but still have a fun rip. I realize it will never go all the way back to that but I’m not entirely against the $30 tag as long as the value of the cards within have a slight market adjustment as well. Just bought a NBA Select Blaster for $40 at the local Walmart. They didn’t show the price until I put my credit card in. Even then, it was the last one within a few hours of stocking.

Will see what happens with the flipping game once Target does $30 a blaster for stuff that matters for people. Walmart is $34.98 plus tax, so like $37 a blaster in Cali.
Select Blasters lows hit around $45. Not much profit. Does this mean resale value goes up? Not sure. With print runs likely to continue to go up, and prices. Flippin won't be easy. Plus the PSA shutdown thing. I thought for sure WNBA was going to get botted, but did the $30 price tag sway them, or the print runs? Blasters from last year selling from $75 to $90. |

On wnba people are smart enough to know last year was a one off with Sabrina having the Kobe hype and it being first prizm. this year is more for regular wnba fans. couldn’t even tell you who the rookies are. It will be interesting to see what happens, but my opinion is that an increased retail price won’t change what people are willing to pay on the secondary market so you’ll see two things: we have already hit a point where only a few products are flippable. Basically prizm, optic, select, mosaic. maybe a a couple other random products. As price goes up it will become fewer. Maybe it’s just prizm and optic where all formats flip. then also format will matter. walmart increased select blaster price by 75% but mega only by 35% from what football was. didn’t make sense, but now the mega is way more desirable at walmart than the blaster. Also if target stays at 30 and not 35 like walmart it will continue to be the preferred place to cook. At $20 a box profit it still adds up. Still won’t be easy to get the good product, you’ll just have panini taking a bigger cut of the profit and resellers less. If/when you can ever grade base with psa for $50 or less secondary prices may go back up some but until then i think that’s where we will be. Flippin getting tighter but the money is still there on retail breaks. Collectors gotta stay away and not help the margins on those.

topps chrome and bowman unfortunately had bad classes this year with no one to chase so it wasn’t coveted. it was really a function of who was in the checklist more than how much they produced. i imagine next year topps chrome will sell out quickly with wander and potentially more, it won’t sit around like it has this year. bowman is more dependent on who’s available from the internationals since most of the draftees go in bowman draft. with the minors shutdown last year there was a missing class of international guys ready to get a first. It still sucks walking into Target (took my Son there yesterday) and seeing no baseball on the shelves; only Pokemon, UD Hockey, and Nascar.

Topps Chrome Blasters now listed at $44.99 on Target (Sold by Target). Not sure if that's an error or if they came back in stock or what but that is a big time yikes.
