Win a World Series and leave for the Angels sounds like a fool proof plan

Zips projections are not kind towards him

Basically saying he will decline after a 4.4 WAR year

This will solidify a starting spot for top nationals Prospect Carter Kieboom.

he's entering his 30s mid-next season... and Fangraphs generally has a pretty harsh tail off after 32 or so

I’m so annoyed the Rangers were only looking at a 5 year contract. Why the hell would the top hitter on the market after winning a WS in a great postseason run accept anything short of the 7 years he was wanting especially when there are multiple teams with high interest in him? They just gave him to the Angels and now have to face his bat in what like 15 games/season now?

Yep... give the Nats front office their due.

They are not afraid to let them walk and alwayseem to have youth to fill a hole.

According to reports, Angels still have budget to chase Madbum or Ryu and maybe trade for Kluber.

I have no dog in the fight, and wouldn't mind seeing a strong Angels contender.

Had enough of the Astro's.

Sad day when given a choice you root for the Yankees to make WS.

I keep hearing his name thrown around. If the Indians can get a big piece back I think they'll jump at the offer.

Im pretty sure these guys aren't writing the check to Boras for the full commission all at once. He will get his percentage as they get there checks over the course of their contracts. So in theory, he didn't really just get paid $44 Million nor will it be in just 1 year.

The commission is paid as the players get paid, not upfront. So Boras isn’t making $44mm this year unless he has clients with $880mm worth of client salary/bonuses per year

...well, I think he may bundle and resell these through some of the structured finance folks, so in fact might actually get paid up front, but with some discount rate (like 8%)

What the &%$# was Rendon thinking???

It appears that he put ZERO thought into how this would affect his baseball card prices. Who the heck is advising him? Selfish. Dumb.

I know he got paid, but I have at least $65 invested in his RC's, and this does NOTHING to help, and likely hurts. Unreal.

So, who are the Angels big minor league prospects? I'm guessing this is the only way to trade for Kluber.

I wonder what people who heavily PC Rendon think?

I really dont know what it will do to card prices. For local Angels fans...not the blowoutcards ones....they only know Mike Trout and that's it...and they spend on little trout cards (under $20 bucks).

I don’t think there will be much effect on his card prices to speak of. Like for the rest of his career he’ll have to earn any gains with continued excellence. He doesn’t have much hobby hype- too old and wasn’t highly touted coming up. if he performs like last year and the Angels become relevant I think they’ll continue to move upward. If he is good(not great) I think they will fall quickly.
