I collect Malcolm Brogdon. Only Select I’ll buy are Black, Gold, Gold Wave, Tie Dye, and Zebra. Everything else to me is junk that I won’t touch. So does that make me an investor?

Prior to retail overprinting this was my favorite brand. I only collect the TD’s now from this brand. Overprinting is really hurting the hobby IMO.

I really enjoyed Select retail! Most fun I've had opening packs in awhile. Great MSRP experience. Loved the Hanger format. Courtsides look great in my view.

I have gotten a TON of prizm retail this year, and have never seen select. But football select they stocked for literally months. It is total watered down trash, so wouldn't surprise me if they did the same for basketball.

Just kept it traditional for the most part. It just gets lost in the shuffle.
Elite was my favorite basketball product released this year.

Which speaks volumes.

I felt like breaking Select basketball blasters that someone had on FB Marketplace. They were listed at $85. I offered $750 for 10 of them, local pickup, cash. He actually replied with a laughing emoji.

Who is laughing now fool!

I understand your perspective, although I think the chase of something rare and having cards that maintain value are mutually exclusive things. I'm a Kings collector...even most of the rare stuff I have doesn't have much value.

The thing is though, does lack of rarity or scarcity make a card "junk"? You might argue so because you value rarity more than I do. I got a Jahmi'us Ramsey Premier Silver RC in a Kings lot and was surprised at how nice the card looked. There's probably thousands out there and it already is worth a couple bucks shipped, if that, but I think it's a good looking card with a good photo and the shine really pops. PC cards for dirt cheap that look really good? Very un-junk like to me personally.

At the end of the day, no matter what cards we're talking about, they're all pieces of cardboard containing pictures of sweaty, grown men. They're all inherently junk to most people.

Only thing worth it from this product is #, autos, zebras, and tigers parallel
. Everything else is garbage and overprinted.

I remember when Select looked the exact same but still had value and it was everyone’s fav set, a lot even ranked it over Prizm. The good old days

Damn, a PSA 10 2019 Courtside Silver of Curry just went for $900. That makes me feel pretty good about this year's overprinting not affecting previous years.

My outlook on sports cards has hit an all time low. Very up beat and excited 2016 to ~this spring. But the combination of:
-Overprinting
-No more Topps
-Returns skyrocketing due to a$$hat bit**es not following through on transactions
-Being at the mercy of PSA's prices for 2022

Have all been very deflating. Just caught up on running my numbers for 2021. Woof, turrible year so far.

90's is all overproduced junk yet people love it and think it is so great that "hits" are so tough.

If there's numbered cards and big hits it does not matter how overproduced it is.
Something to chase.

Either way, it's up. I got mine for around $425 a year ago.

It's not a base card.

With 90s you know what the chase cards are... credentials, rubies, precious metal, refractors (1 kind, not 50 colors), maybe a couple rare inserts per product. Nowadays, what is the chase card, is it the purple panda hippo disco or the orange orangutan tiger's tits, or maybe it's the green blue purple red nebula, or maybe the orange blue purple red nebula? It's been said by others but the volume of parallels dilutes everything. You could have 1 trillion 1 of 1s. Are they really rare at that point?

You have significantly more individuals (whether they be collectors/flippers in the hobby than before.

So yes, you need more products/parallels. Back then, only some cared about cards. Now it’s significantly more mainstream and many care about cards.

Yes, the 1/1s are still rare….

Basically low numbered cards of top rookies.
That's it.
