He was the highest rated prospect across the board that wont have had a RC logo card by time 2023 topps releases.......who else would it have been? Riley greene?

It's almost as if people don't know what city teams play for. Doesn't bother me at all that the city's name gets cut off, or if they had just left it off altogether.

That’s my point. The available rookie crop is terrible. S1 will sell regardless. But the rest of the early releases will be rough.

My first thought was it reminded me of past release victory, think it was an ud set? I'm good w it over, few tweaks would make it better but it's not bad.

when was the last time Series 1 and early releases like GQ had a "must have" rookie card logo guy to chase after?

2022 was supposed to be it, but then Wander got hurt

MY point is that they are always fairly rough. I cant remember last time there was a big $$$ to chase in series 1. its always been about TC and then Update or Update chrome retail

Best looking Topps cards in a long time, IMHO. I like the classic features, but modern touches. The only thing I don't like is their ridiculous choice to push Adley and other current rookies to 2023. Why even have an update if you don't even bother, you know, updating? Thank goodness for BB21.

I feel the exact opposite, theres no way you can see the 2023 RC class is horrible.

Adley, Riley Greene, Michael Harris, Nolan Gorman, Gunnar Henderson, Vinnie P, Brett Baty. There's probably more, thats just off the top of my head.

One of the strongest "known" crops in a while. At the beginning of this season it was just Wander, remember?

None of those guys come close to moving the hobby needle the way Wander did.

I think it's great.

I'd like to see some slight variance on the front for when it's an SP or SSP other than just the main pic, as well. Maybe the stars colored in or a different ribbon or position color

More an issue of people going way overboard with Wander than anything else.

I hope the legends SPs use vintage looks for the logo/mascot area.

True, but those “Wander level” guys don’t come around too often. Don’t sleep on Michael Harris II though. He could become a real super star with a full year under his belt and not batting in the bottom of the order.

This forum overvalues top prospect RCs and undervalues star player RCs in comparison to the overall market (i.e.- this forum is mostly about investing).

Argue all you like about the design and whether you love it or hate it. You'll buy the hell out of it regardless and that's all Topps cares about.

If Bobby Witt moved the needle then this RC class should make the needle its bitch.

Riley Greene coming off a fractured foot twice as valuable as Witt in half as many games.

Totally agree - wonder if/how Fanatics will have continuity across flagship.

Yes I will. The design itself wouldn't stop me from getting, minimum, a complete set. Only things like opening pack after pack of damaged, or wildly mis-cut cards. Something like that. Otherwise I very much look forward to having these in hand.

Fair enough. But how many new RCs do?

18 update

19 s2

2022 s1(although 21 BBest took a teeny bit of steam out and everyone saw the printers revving)

I wasn't around when 15 update(Bryant, Correa, Buxton, Lindor, Thor?) released but Im pretty sure that was before flagship in general started rising in 2019 due mostly to 2018 Update. So since 2016:

2016 s1
2016 s2
2016 update
2017 s1 (got hot-ish later I believe?)
2017 s2
2017 update
2018 s1
2018 s2
2018 Update
2019 s1
2019 s2
2019 update
2020 s1
2020 s2
2020 update
2021 s1
2021 s2
2021 update
2022 s1
2022 s2

That's 16 ok / meh / horrible RC checklists and 3 that had "hobby good" young potential superstar RCs?
I think the list of potential names is slightly above average in the last 15 or so IMO.
The occourence of 19-20 year old prospects even making a flagship checklist
is pretty rare in itself...much less playing like immediate all star or MVP level is even more far fetched.

Who knows- Wander's injury and disappointing year may lead to more affordable singles of the Harris' and Greens and Adleys of the world as a cautionary tale?

Glad to see the RC I’ll probably be going for flies under the radar of most…. there will be a lot of choices in 2023…

Corbin Carroll, Vaughn Grissom - I mean realistically Topps is gonna have to push a lot of these guys to series 2.

Maybe. Although I have a tough time discerning anything during pandemic lather. And although very talented at callup neither one was at an age that everyone started anointing them probable HOFers right off the bat like Ron, Juan, Tatees and Wander.
