Remember the draft pick incentives with players on this list and MLB.com list if they accrue a full year of service, are on opening day roster and go on to certain finishes in awards voting. Mariners got an extra draft pick this year because of JRod.

Yep. And Adley got the full year of service because of his ROY standing

I just checked and he's at #5 on my list....smack dab in the middle

Surprised James Triantos fell off. He was player of the month in september and had a decent year. Just wish he would sign his bowman redemptions.

Andrew Painter should be #1. Milb pitcher of the year and looks like the Phillies will have him on the opening day roster at age 19. 6 ft 7 lights out starter.

I'd be shocked if they do that. Only 100ip last year with only 38 above A ball and none in AAA. The new rules make it more likely pos players get called up, but I still expect teams to baby starters. More likely than manage his innings and bring him up in 2nd half. If you're looking at going deep in the playoffs last thing you want is a rookie starter breaking camp with the big league team. He prob has 150ip max this year.

Knowing the Phillies you're probably right about them stalling his call up. But if he pitches unbelievably well in spring training I really don't see how putting him on the roster hurts the team. They could make him the 5th starter since they have backups to put in to rest him here and there and manage his innings. From everything I've read his knowledge and feel for the game are exceptional for his age. He has 3 plus pitches and a 4th that is close. But either way he will be a fun one to watch and deserves the #1 spot on the top 100 list imho.

Its not that it would hurt the team its more if he only has 150 inning this year (my assumption) and he is that good, you'd rather have him around for the postseason. Its really the same situation as DeGrom, Scherzer, Verlander etc If you're a playoff caliber team you want them healthy and with enough innings left in their arm for October. Only 8 pitchers threw 200+ and only 62 threw 150. That's only a little over 2 per team. For a guy like Painter he's probably going to be capped at 150 including the post season.

MLB Pipeline top 100 drops tonight. Spent about 6-ish hours working on my list yesterday. Still got a lot of work to do - I try to get eyes on every one of my top ~200. Will then whittle it down to top 150. My top 25 is pretty set though - barring any late-breaking + interesting info dropping.

Right or wrong, it’s unlikely a pitcher will be the number one prospect on most of the big evaluator lists.

Here's a little preview of my top 150 - I don't think much will change with the list up to this point [top 80], maybe this will spurn a little discussion as we wait for the mlb pipeline list dropping tonight as well. For reference, I've been doing these for quite a while, sort of a fun hobby when the card hobby is lacking excitement for me.

Here's an old one from 2017 if you'd like to read about my approach as I haven't changed it, RIP to the old J Sickels blog.

Overall I think this is really solid. Druw Jones over Gunnar is a hot take, but I respect the boldness. One omission I noticed was Kyle Manzardo

Thanks! I struggle finding anything to nitpick with Druw's profile - it's insane, the whole package. He did have surgery, but it was on his non-throwing arm, so hard to even dock him for that. I guess he does have the benefit of not seeing any pro competition yet, so with that he can't have any weaknesses yet. I'm sure he will, but again, tremendous overall tools package.

With Gunnar I question how he hits vs LHP and his high GB rate. Manzardo is in the next wave, I mostly have questions with his subpar Exit Velocities, and I generally rate 1B lower due to having to be so good with the bat to have value.

Fangraphs doesn’t even have Luis Rodriguez in their top 51 dodgers prospects…what’s the deal he’s in EVERY product. I’m so confused…?

I'm in that ballpark on Casas. I've got him as a Grade B, which would typically be in the back half or just outside of the top 100. Among position prospects (I don't bother with pitchers) I've got 67 Grade B or better, not counting any draft picks. Plus I petered out towards the end and may have missed a few in the low minors. There were 46 position players that I graded better than Casas. Figure another 35-50 pitchers, and I'd have him in the 80 to 100 range.

As daeve said it is very difficult to rank as a 1b. I've only got 5 on my list and one of those is Marco Luciano. Another is a fringy catcher type. The only pure 1b I've got ahead of Casas is Manzardo, but I am way higher on him than daeve.

I think Volpe is gonna be the guy. Big market, can hit for average and power, local kid, future fan favorite, premium position

Glad to see the Guardians well represented in the top 100 and they have some guys right behind this group that could be just as good.

Painter at #6!

Hope to see him and Abel this spring and hopefully on the Phils starting rotation.

Yep - plus his body was already going backwards. Though reportedly he's shed 15-20 lbs this offseason, so we'll see if it sticks.

Looking back at my '17 list, the 1B on it were Bellinger, J Bell, Dom Smith, AJ Reed, Matt Theiss, and Rowdy in order [within top 115]. With Belly as the only one in the top 50. I think many see bigger stats and assume it's easier to predict a bopping 1B bat, but the reality is they have just as much, if not more attrition as any other position. Because if you struggle to hit at that position, there's nowhere else to go.

If you notice the comments I even had someone complaining about how I left Bobby Bradley off the list - anyone remember him? I only do because I was much lower on him than consensus.

If there is I haven't found it.

Bold on Tovar, I like it. I was not on him early, I admit - he's been a guy who's out-paced my idea of what he could be.
