I agree here also.

I've searched Exquisite almost every day since 2004. But most people would not recognise it.

I really don't think it's that iconic
Maybe because I collect hockey and see it pop up annually in their products, but it's pretty recognizable. UD continues to use the 03-04 Exquisite RPA design as a "retro" insert set in their products, including Goodwin Champions.

I think that Lebron card is the more iconic between it and the Bird/Magic RC, but the latter is far more attainable so it would not surprise me if it won in the poll.

First off, I didn't expect the Bird/Magic to get 55ish%. I thought the votes would be more balanced out. Second, Wilt only getting 3 votes is also surprising as that card is way up there in terms of significance for me. Say what you will about Wilt (rep as choker), his stats to this day are unparalleled.
I am not. Blowout is mostly millennials who don't have a clue. In my over 30 years as a dealer, I missed when Magic-Bird RC was ever a card. I guess all my customers have been wrong too.

The Russell RC being from Topps first set and a tougher card, there was a find of unopen 1961 Fleer, give him a slight edge over Wilt. However, far above any card on this list are the Kobe Chrome and LeBron Exquisite. That there are comments on here like "I don't know what that card looks like" just show how clueless people are. I know the hate for LeBron is strong here but I didn't expect the bias to be so strong against one of the most important cards in the hobby, regardless of sport.

Whenever “iconic” comes up here, the meaning is completely lost. It’s not supposed to be subjective.

Cue the Michael Jordan vs Michael Jackson Blowout debate.

Basketball cards, like football and hockey cards, didn’t become more hobby relevant until after 1989, so in those sports, the most iconic cards are skewed more towards more modern card issues.

I may be amongst the anti-Bron crowd, but for sure the exquisite is the most iconic just as Kobe is the most iconic chrome card of all time.

IMO..

1986 Fleer Jordan
1980 Topps Bird/Magic
1961 Fleer Wilt
1957 Topps Russell

I could see the argument for the 2003 Exquisite Lebron. Just depends on the audience. When I think of "iconic" the Lebron card just doesn't pop into my head. Could be that he probably has well over 100 different RC's.

I also think most people think of his Topps Chrome. Similar to Kobe's Chrome, it's not his most valuable, but it's his most "iconic".

You aren’t iconic if “depends on the audience” is a factor

Or at least Mount Rushmore level

I would agree there, which is how I got to my top 4.

Underrated card for sure. A PSA 10 goes for like $700 right now. Long term, that is a great investment (no i don't own any, just an observation).

You're kind of contradicting yourself. On the one hand, you easily discredit the Magic/Bird card but call people out who claim they don't even know what the Bron Exquisite looks like? You don't need to bash one card to lift another.

I agree with your take on the Exquisite but over time, i see it's significance increasing due to who the player was, it's sheer value, ushering in the RPA era, etc.

You can't talk about this hobby without discussing that card. Most times, "iconic" cards represents something. Bron is the ultra limited RPA era. 1989 UD Griffey ushered in the "modern era", etc.

For a card to be truly iconic, it has to pass through both regular collectors and kids. It needs emotional impact and cultural penetration among younger fans. Exquisite never went through that.

In 2003, an Exquisite box cost $500–$600. Young collectors like me were buying 2003–04 MVP boxes for $45, Rookie Exclusives boxes for $38, and ripping Topps Chrome packs.

Topps Chrome is the iconic card for LeBron

How does a find of unopened 61 impact how iconic a card is? As a dealer for 40 years, the Bird/Magic was a prized card going back to at least 1988. You’re wrong a lot.

Topps Chrome is the iconic card for LeBron
LeBron isn’t even the most iconic topps chrome card.

Kobe is.

Plus, no kid in the 2000’s has ever touched a t206 Wagner or even a 52 mantle, yet they are some of the most iconic cards in the entire hobby.

So, exquisite LeBron is the most iconic LeBron.

Yeah I was about to say that.

t206 Wagner is the most or second most iconic card in history, and I've only seen it through a whole lot protecting plexiglass.

Ive done a lot of thinking and it's gotta be the Bird/Magic. So many were split apart, as it was a time when the hobby was truly a hobby. Plus, impossible to gem. And double bang for the buck. Also the stars are like old school NBA figureheads. Like they took the game seriously, but they also understood that winning is a vibe. I bet both are still friends with most all of their old teammates.
