Let's not forget the spiteful hof decided to create a NEW rule right after Rose was banned saying that permanently ineligible players could not gain admittance. So they had to create a new rule to keep Rose the player out of a museum that already contained alcoholics, wife beaters, etc. Finally, Rose the manager was found guilty. Nothing official found against Rose the player. And we have a separate wing of the hall for managers. I have no issue with Rose being banned permanently from the sport, but the machinations to keep him out of a museum were and are disgusting to this day. |

He knew the rule. He knew the consequences of breaking the rule. Nowhere does the rule say "you are only ineligible with regards to the position you held when you broke the rule." Nor does it say "well, if he's a popular player and people really like him, then this rule does not apply." Last edited by Fenway55; 09-30-2024 at 07:41 PM. |

Was banned from baseball for 37 years for the same thing that Ohtani probably did, but we can stomach it now.

Pretty amazing. One day (yesterday) he’s there and today he’s gone. Wonder who got the very last Pete Rose autograph. It came from this show: https://musiccitycollectiblesshow.com/ |

Gambling is a way of life for many in the MLB especially the old school guys who would head right to the track after the games. Sure, betting at the track isnt betting on baseball but if you think Rose was the only one who made a bet on his team you would be very much mistaken.
Rose got stupid and was caught. Others covered their tracks or knew someone who could help look the other way when handling their bets. There are so many stories that nobody wants to tell outside of the baseball fraternity as nobody wants to be the guy who threw some big names, and small names too under the bus. |

I would argue you have to be a lower level thinker to not be able to realize the effect racism had on the integrity of the game.

Pete signed everything under the sun, but not all autos are created equal. Here are some of my favorites.

I always thought if Pete was willing to admit he had a gambling problem and did this he would have eventually been reinstated. Sad news today, may Pete finally have the peace he never had walking the earth. |

The idea that Pete Rose betting on the Reds to win while he was the manager did more damage to baseball then not letting some of the best players of their era play in MLB because of their skin color is ridiculous. Segregation had an actual lasting effect on the MLB. Rose gambling had no lasting effect. And it also has no relevance to his on field performance which is what the HOF's criteria is supposed to be based on.

And by probably did, something that not even federal investigators found a shred of evidence he participated in. And even with Ippei, they found no betting on baseball.

I have always been a believer when it comes to Rose you have to base his eligibility off of his career stats. Whatever gambling he did has nothing to do with his stats it's not like he bet against his team and went out and just went 0-4 on purpose which would hurt his statistical chances. The guy was the best hitter in the game of baseball ever plain and simple and he should be in the HOF because of that. You want to blacklist him by putting an asterisk next to his name on his plaque then go for it.
The fact that main stream sports media decided to do a 2 min piece on his passing and then move on like he never existed is disgusting and shameful. If this had been any other player there would've been 24/7 coverage with people getting choked up the whole nine yards. Hell even Barry Bonds the most hated player in modern history has had more documentaries and had people make stronger cases for him to be in the HOF. MLB and all of it's proxies who now have embraced gambling even having ads for betting sites but yet still proclaim how much damage Rose did to the game are biggest bunch of hypocrites I've ever seen. Every last one of them should be ashamed of themselves. |
