i collect patches and GU cards...so i didnt mind too much...but from a collector POV...parallels were my gripe with panini..and this product pushes that to a limit...
quality is better..but i have to let everyone know and this may not be true for everyone...but out of the 15 cases opened so far..... close to 25 packs have missing hits...thats either 1 or 25 new cases for panini... ![]()

After seeing whats been available as a sample Im not sure why I have taken such a beating in threads for saying this product would stink. No offense to Alex but him thinking this stuff figured at $17 a hit would be a good thing is kinda crazy. If this stuff winds up missing hits consistently, it will be even worse. This product COULD have been good had Panini not tried yet again to maximize profit with absolutely no regard for the consumer. Another Panini fail.

Looks like garbage, I will definitely take a pass on this product. The product looks like there trying to make it appeal to kids but giving it the price tag that only adults can afford. I will certainly pass on paying $120 to get six scrub jersey/autos. Panini buying out Donruss has turned out to be quite a nightmare.

cause it is a foil based parallel set with tooo many color variations and is not chrome based like its predecessor 15 years ago (see baseball football and hockey around 1997)
what this product should be called is totally duflexed (or nuflex) http://cgi.ebay.com/CAL-RIPKEN-JR-19...item2eb5c96e84

Perhaps I will echo alot that has been said...which leads me to believe that nothing will happen in term of Panini. What is going on now is what happened with UD...overproduction, not honoring redemptions, non existent customer service, but Panini has a harder time just because it IS the monopoly in the NBA Trading Card scene, AND last years rookie class didnt help its cause much. I believe 25% of ppl made gripes with the Bread company just bc 80% of the lottery picks sell below 20 bucks. This isnt panini's fault and while alot of the players/autos are trash, give them credit for including players for the benefit of collectors who collect teams or whatever. And in terms of hits, we get more hits in Panini.
now I am not defending them, at one point at the start of the year till march, I had 135 redemptions with them, and since its been narrowed down to around 50-60 plus... do i agree with all their business decisions? like employing only 2-3 customer service reps, overproduction of products or putting in undrafted players? no..but they just follow the trend bc look at ppl like lagarette blount or whatever....in a sense, Panini caters to the collector. how could they improve? 1. Better Designs. (btw, due to the NFL/NBA/NHL demanding huge bucks to produce cards, Panini has to break even, make their company profitable while paying licenses...so give them a break) 2. More emphasis on value and collectability (i.e. dont ruin parallels) 3. Support US job growth and hire a few fresh grads from college to take care of customer service while learning new skills in sales and customer relationship, they can become a leader in this sort of thing. this is all gibberish so sorry....but i can support the haters and the non haters here....but at the end of the day, live with it...we complained when UD was doing this and Topps was overproducing, now its combined into 1, but its not like they are totally ripping us off.. |

I'm still excited to open the one box I ordered, but definitely not as excited. I didn't think the numbering would be so stupidly high. I guess I should've known better...

For those that are reading this thread and seeing my name come up in a negative manner, I would hope you'd read my posts and come to your own conclusion as to my sanity and reputation. I always try to be the best eBay seller I can be, regardless if a product is a financial success for me or not. I really enjoy busting cases and selling on eBay. I'm good at it. And I try to treat all buyers the same way I want to be treated as a buyer: cool cards, fair prices, fast & safe shipping, no BS. I'd much prefer to have financial success with every break, but that just isn't possible. MLB sells much better than NBA right now, that is just a fact. But it doesn't stop me from trying NBA products, at least for now. Good luck everyone. |

basketball is just a tough sale in any aspect, baseball & football seem to do better in my opinion, basketball just lacks the interest, especially with a lockout next season and the season being over for the year. I think the cards look pretty cool, but they might be tough to move....
I was strictly basketball for a long time, but I have moved over to baseball & football, and I have to say that the products are much better.....it's alot more fun to have a variety, oddly I don't like that panini football products, prestige/threads etc..... they were easily the worst of my breaks.

I'll be trying some. On card autos is a plus. And I agree with Qwasian. Basketball is a tough sport to collect with such a lackluster rookie class and the lack of value. In a few years when this class becomes more established (Wall, Turner, Cousins, Johnson, Monroe, Favors, probably some other surprises) I could see a run on products from this year. Remember how Topps Signature was blasted when it came out in 08-09? Boxes dropped to around $80? Now you're lucky to find it for less than twice that much. Same for Murad, Fleer, Skybox, etc from that year, pretty much due to one player getting super hot.
Sorry, cruiserdaddy, some of us are nightowls and some are early birds. Can't always be on to "defend" Panini. |

I am certainly not attacking your reputation as a seller. I dont think anyone would even take it that way simply based on us not agreeing about a card product or card manufacturer. I will certainly agree the difference between us is that you are still willing to take a risk and buy Panini products. I think in time and after this product and Gold Standard ( I believe you said you are opening 6 cases of each) you will lose more trust in Panini. As I have said before I certainly dont root against anyone doing well with these products, but I certainly wish people wouldnt continue to give Panini so much business considering it is fueling their business model of no customer service and terrible value in products and card designs that look the same. Its just a simple product/manufacturer debate Alex, not any attack towards your credibility.

How is this stuff $100 a box? lol. There's going to be a lot of damage on these cards with those foils edges.

So I am going to guess that John Wall's auto prices are going to drop. The new Certified RC auto of his has a print run of 599. Also I noticed that after the 10th pick, all the rookies are redemtions. Not real happy about this.
