Hypothetical question: If Luka sucks as a Laker but is a Mavs great, do his Mavs cards hold (greater) value?

No.

I've seen this play out in major markets before:

If he's great and wins championships, he's pushed higher than ever before.

If he's not and can't win when it counts, the media turns on him and it tarnishes his image.

Your entire Blowout posting history is one long regular season

You mean finals only right? Make sure to get it right to suit your needs/agenda

Lebron is the 2nd best player ever. There is serious debate whether he is better than Michael Jordan. Of course there is going to be more talk about him playing poorly against a bad team.

So that means context should be blindly ignored?

Agree about being #2, but I'm done with the #1 debate. Jordan's peak years are simply unmatched and is more important than longevity.

I'm comfortable saying the MJ is the 20th century GOAT and LeBron is the 21st century GOAT.

Obviously Luka has to win a title wherever he is - otherwise he's a non-rapist Karl Malone.

Yeah, but everything gets magnified when you're on a franchise like the Lakers.

He's already come here with the expectation that he'll be the next Laker great along the lines of Kobe, Shaq, Magic, and Kareem (the greats who spend their prime here.) If it doesn't work out quick, the narrative turns sour on him quick.

Anthony Davis might be an even better comp that Luka. AD played well and even won a title, but injuries and just falling short of playing at an MVP level always held him back from being the next Lakers great, and now that he's traded, no one is shedding a tear.

Theory. Number one will always be some player from the past and number two some vet in the present.

Unless you win like 6 championships across different eras.

What was the tipping point in Jordan's career when people started calling him the greatest? I would think that as late as '98 there would have been people in the Kareem, Wilt, and Russell camps.

The way I look at it, Lebron is the most physically gifted person to ever step foot on a basketball court, but nobody has had the combination of talent and drive that MJ had. They have two very different personalities.

People were calling him the GOAT after his first title, but it didn't really begin to get serious until he won his 4th title in an MVP year (1996). At that time Magic and Bird were the popular choices for GOAT over the big men.

When he won the 5th title he passed Magic and then it became a debate whether Kareem's 6 titles mattered more or going back even further to Russell's 11.

I expected so much more out of Bron given his natural tools and talents.

He simply doesn’t have the mental fortitude.

It remains to be seen if Luka has it or not.

Coming from a Bron homer, doesn’t mean much.

I mean, didn’t you see the Leflop of the year against the Celtics?

How can you justify that as an NBA fan?

This is exactly my point. For Bron it’s you’re an apologist, for every other player it’s context… you can’t have it both ways.

There are apologists for every player besides Jordan, the GOAT. It isn’t limited to LeBron.

Bron apologists come in multiple categories:

1. Those who believe Bron is GOAT
2. Those who invested in Bron during the pandemic and hoped to be independently wealthy by now but are still working at the Golden Arches
3. Millennials
4. Those who like Leflopping, Lequiting, Lexcuses and Ledecision.
5. All of the above
