I'm more impressed with the PSA 9 sale of $237.50. That's where the 10s were in October.

This is the BGS min gem copy that had been available for sale on ebay on and off, at gradually increasing prices, for a month or more. Glad the seller got his (or her) price!

It was available last month at 7950 obo for a while, and then 9950 obo. Then 14950 obo, which apparently resulted in a 9k offer. Prices are going up!

If the PSA 10 regular refractors /250 are going for ~4000, then this does look like a really good deal for a red /25, even given the BGS min gem discount. Not many of these out there!

I’m in big on Soto and obviously expect his cards to appreciate well over his long lustrous career, but this kind of pricing feels 5 years too early... I thought $400 would pose a barrier and the value would fall back to $320-350 at least until the season starts.

That is pretty impressive yes! If the 9 market is strong, it supports the high 10s market. Those TCU value packs should be following suit I guess.

If Kyle Lewis goes on a tear for another year and a half he won't have the bump that Soto is currently having. Soto's age changes everything in my view.

Soto is legitimately too cheap across the board. Best hitter in the game, just 22 years old, a great personality on and off the field, a WS champion, and very few RCs. There is no better in baseball right now.

Juan Soto’s ascension into an MVP candidate happened quickly. He broke into the majors at 19 years old, led his team to a World Series title at 20 and claimed his first Silver Slugger and batting title at 21. Now, going into his age-22 season, Soto is among the favorites to take home the 2021 honor of best player in the National League.J

Among those least surprised about his rise to stardom is Nationals hitting coach Kevin Long. The launch-angle specialist joined MLB Network Radio on Monday and talked about what he’s seen from Soto ever since he first saw him as a prospect in Washington’s minor-league system.

“As soon as I saw Juan Soto hit, I said, ‘Wow,’” Long said. “I said, ‘This is special’ and the only time I can remember saying that about somebody was when I saw Robinson Cano. When I saw Robinson Cano for the first time, he was in Double-A. I said, ‘Wow, this guy’s gonna be special.’ And that’s kinda how I was with Juan Soto.”

With all due respect to Cano — a lock for the Hall of Fame if not for his PED-related suspensions — Soto has been even better. Here’s a look at their numbers side-by-side over each of their first three seasons.

Cano: 414 games, .314/.346/.489, .835 OPS, 48 home runs, 237 RBIs, 509 hits, 73 walks, 207 strikeouts

Soto: 313 games, .295/.415/.557, .972 OPS, 69 home runs, 217 RBIs, 328 hits, 228 walks, 259 strikeouts

Despite playing in 100 fewer games (almost exactly the number of games MLB lost to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020), Soto outpaced Cano in home runs and walks. His OPS is nearly 140 points high and, oh yeah, he turned 22 after last season ended. Cano was 22 when his MLB career began.

Even outside the numbers, Long sees greatness in Soto.

“The other intangibles and things that he has — is he smart? Yes. Does he have work ethic? Yes. Does he wanna get better? Yes. Is he content with where he’s at? No. There’s just so many things that kinda play into him being so good at such a young age. It’s gonna be exciting to watch this guy just grow and develop. I truly think he’s gonna be one of the best players that’s ever played the game.”

Soto has a long career ahead of him. Yet the future has already arrived for this young phenom. If you ask Long, he’s just getting started.

The bolded is what resonates with me. Those are always the the qualities of the best players in their respective sports.

I'm old and the EEE name still means something, so this was more attractive to me than some of the other unlicensed offerings.

Also, hat tip to pskell02 on the lightbox recommendation the other day. I need to spend some time tweaking this set up, but wow this thing makes a difference with the lighting.

Why is the Soto hype NOW though?
We all have some Soto cards (most in the thread anyways), and love to see the rise, but I'm also just curious as to "why".
Is it one of below reasons? or something else?

-General hype of the trading card world, regardless of it being Soto or not
-Pre baseball season hype is just earlier than usual (might be similar to above)
-People just happened to realize how good Soto was/is, and one person after another buying his stuff caused the hype (but again, why NOW and not during last season?)

People are priced out of basketball and are looking for something with the same up-side, but much cheaper, enter Tatis, Soto, and Acuna!

They are SO CHEAP compared to the basketball guys of similar age and talent.
